Yes, I was hasty and did not do this the correct way. But the lure of Windows 7 ease of use drove me....
I have an old but virtually unused HP 4540S that came with Windows 7- got it to match my work provided laptop 8 years ago.
Had a virus that was persistent so I upgraded to Windows 10. My employers gave me the work laptop when I retired but didnt change admin to me so some software could not be installed. Had to resurrect the W10 machine recently. In spite of doing all the things to speed it up I could manage with my skill level it was clunky and transitioning between processes was terrible.
I found a W7 download site for $15 and ended up crushing all my network adapters and probably many many drivers. An external USB wireless adapter allowed functionality and reinstall of necessary MS programs..It runs great but....
However I cannot connect to a modem (wired ethernet) cannot bring back the Qualcom WLAN and think sound is operating at much lower volume..probably lots of other things I crushed.
The old windows 10 file is in C..
This is a question that will send me to multiple forums here for certain- how do I reinstall the hardware as it doesn't appear in hidden in device manager ? There was no install CD as it was a newegg preloaded purchase.
