Hello guys.I have been using this installation for like 3 years or so and it used to work like a champ until recently i got a load of issues which ultimately lead to corrupt windows installation.

Well my laptop restarted during PREPARING to CONFIGURE WINDOWS UPDATES DO NoT TURN OFF YE COMPUTER :)

After that i always used to get Preparing.... message with and addition of FAILED to configure windows updates reverting changes etc..SO for booting windows my computer had to always restart once,i tried many solutions but to no avail so i bit my tongue and continued sulking with it.

Until now,,recently i have not been able to log in or it takes a lot of time to boot..STuck on Preparing to configure windows,,and if i get in stucks during the logging in process with a black screen with only accesible option being the notorious TASK MANAGER which is not even able to start a new task..

In short my windows is corrupt and i want to do a repair installation.

I have no access to normal boot option,,and for a repair installation i viewed a post here mentioning that YOU NEED TO BE IN NORMAL MODE..I have no system restore dates to revert to.My safe mode is working flawlessly.

So what are my options?I cannot do a fresh install cuz i have very important data on my laptop. Is there any way to initiate a repair install from safemode?

Please help me,its been 2 days and i an still at point zero :(

The solution to failed or interrupted Updates is to boot into http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html to run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html to the last working Restore point.

Since Safe Mode is working you can probably run it from there, too.

However if this is the original factory Preinstalled Win7 that is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have. This is why most tech enthusiasts will not even run such an install but choose to do a perfect http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164. Everything you need is in the blue link.

At a minimum if SysRestore starts working I would immediately http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219576-clean-up-factory-bloatware.html to improve performance and resolve issues related to the horrible HP crapware duplicate utilties that interfere with the best OS ever.

If that isn't enough to clear up issues then go over the install using http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html

Ok..System restore is not working for me.I cannot boot in normal mode.I tried windows repair/not repairable it says..I have also tried the option of SFC /SCANNOW which gives me "There is a system repair pending which requires a reboot to complete. Restart windows and run sfc again" and a never ending loop of failed SFC.

I tried to back up my windows drive data on external hardisk but whenever i copy in safe mode it never copies complete data just 1/8th of the data.I cannot do a fresh install without backing up my data and now its been a week and i just want to throw this laptop in a dustbin.

As i have a System Reserved partition i also tried

SFC /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=C:\ /OFFWINDIR=C:\Windows //returned the same error

Are you trying the System Restore and Startup Repair from Disk? It is provided in the tutorial below.

You can use a boot disk to rescue your files as shown in Fix Unbootable Win7 Step 10 before doing the booted reinstall in Step 11.

Everything else that can be tried to start Win7 is also sequenced in the tutorial. You may have infection which will prevent it from being repaired until cleaned up. Start at the top if you want to try everything first.
