Windows 7 says no network lead connected.

I upgraded my pc to Windows 7 and everything was working fine for ages. A few days ago I noticed that the network icon had the red cross going through it, which always meant there was no lead connected. Even though it has the red cross going through it I have internet access and if I place my cursor over the network icon it says Internet access. I uninstaled the network adaptor in Device manager and rebooted the pc. Windows reinstalled the adaptor and it was fine. The next day when starting my pc the red cross was a back again. My mobo is a Gigabyte EP35-DS3L so I went to the Gigabyte website and downloaded the network driver for Windows 7 and tried to install it but Windows said the best driver was already installed. I tried running Network Diagnostics and it said there was a connection problem between the router and pc, even though I have Internet access. Can anyone help with this, its not a major issue as I do have internet access but its doing my head in

Did you by some chance install any 3rd party DVD software or set up Windows Media Player recently?

This applies to Vista but I have the feeling it's affecting W7 as well. I've seen it on one of my own systems and I do have 3rd party DVD authoring software.

Do you have firewall/antivirus? ANd which ones? Reason I ask is I started having some similar issues with AVGfree(latest version) and had to uninstall it.

Yes I have NOD32 antivirus and I just use the Firewall built into Windows 7.

I have Real Player installed and I set up Media Player the first time I used it after installing Windows 7 which was before I started to get this problem, but the problem started a while after I set Media Player so I am not sure if Media Player is the problem. If Media Player is the problem is there a fix? I'm pretty sure the problem was there before I installed Real Player.
