Hello,

I am having difficulty updating windows. Specifically, when I attempt to install service pack 1 (KB2585542), I receive error 8007065E. Before coming to these forums, I tried rebooting the machine and installing with antivirus temporarily disabled. I have since followed the instructions on the forums and run the system update readiness tool (SURT), done the SFC scan, and collected logs. Any assistance with this would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

The update you quote has nothing to do with Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 - instead, it's this update. MS12-006: Description of the security update for Webio, Winhttp, and schannel in Windows: January 10, 2012

There are no problems in either the CheckSUR or SFC logs -

The background CBS data however, shows this error sequence...
Code:
2014-07-15 17:44:52, Info CBS Session: 30384246_46319248 initialized by client WindowsUpdateAgent.
2014-07-15 17:44:52, Info CBS Identity missing version. [HRESULT = 0x80070057 - E_INVALIDARG]

I need to have a look at your
C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log
file - please upload it to your reply.

Sorry - mistook this update for SP1 because I recently tried to install some statistical software, which failed to run and said that SP1 was required.

The log you requested is attached to message. Thank you for your assistance with this.

It looks as if you're using WSUS rather than the normal Windows Updates? -
2014-07-16 08:07:12:621 320 338 AU # WSUS server: Pitt Software Update Service

Are you properly connected to the site?

Try installing using the standalone - but you really want to install SP1 first anyhow.
Download the SP1 installer from here... Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center - you'll want the x64 (64-bit) version.

once that's complete, then try Windows Update again.

I have been using the standard windows update, but may have used something else in the past - I don't remember.

With the stand-alone installer that you linked, I have now installed service pack one successfully. I am currently running windows update which is installing a large list of things. I will report back again when it has completed to let you know if it was successful or if there are still problems.

Thank you.
