Windows 7 Service Pack 1 suspected bug with Itunes

Sorry but confused by ios4.3 Is that the operating system that would be on my iPod Classic? Or is this just something for touch screen devises?

After installing SP1, "Windows 7" becomes available as an option in the compatibility settings. Have you tried running iTunes with it set as compatibility for Windows 7?

I haven't tested this myself, as I sync my iPod-Classic in Winamp.

EDIT: Ugh... spoke too soon. Although this greatly increases the chance that iTunes wont freeze, it doesn't totally fix the problem.

EDIT1: I think I got it. Plug in phone. Wait for the Windows message asking what to do next. Close that message. Open itunes. Finally...

No. It's an ITunes problem.

It amazes me how many people are blaming SP1. It's just like Vista all over again. "Oh MS have changed their OS code, and now because the people who write the program haven't updated it, it won't work. How dare Microsoft change their code and make developers do some work? NAughty Naughty Microsoft.

Btw, before anyone says anything, I wasn't having a dig at developers and calling them lazy

That sucks for me then. I ran into this problem while trying to fix the freezing problem. I dont know what to do from here as Ive already reinstalled itunes and reinstalled my iphone driver...

Just like to point out that my wifes Android phone does not sync on windows. This has nothing to do with OS's it's the software....How can anyone say that it's MS problem when the Windows software functions perfectly fine. It's the branded product software that's always at fault here. That's because it's the software that's supposed to keep up with the OS not the other way around.
If Apple can't get their act together to work and function with Windows then it's tough on those people who purchase their product. But, why buy a product that simply does not function with an OS. The simple fact is most people who buy iPhones and Android phones don't need them. It's just a glorified phone! For the people who need the functionality of the phone to work so badly I say 'What the hell'...You ave all gone phone crazy! Calm down.......
Buy a cheaper less complicated phone....Simples!

My Zune still works without a hitch with Service Pack 1 installed along with any other update!
But...that might be because the Zune software uses a User Mode driver while iTunes uses a Kernel Driver. For shame.

This worked for me...

Strangely, what works consistently for me is that when my iPhone 4's WiFi is enabled, iTunes will find my iPhone 4 and sync successfully. When it is not, Windows will see it (and ask how to use it) but iTunes will not and it will not sync.

I've only noticed this behavior since iTunes 10.2.1 and iOS 4.3.

I updated to iTunes 10.3 and tried to sync my iPhone without compatibility mode. Same problem. A few days later, I couldn't get my iPhone to work even in compatibility mode. I then synced my iPad2 and tried the iPhone after it. It worked then. I'm planning on upgrading to the iPhone 5 when it comes out. Hopefully it won't have the same problem.

A further weirdness is that my playlist won't update. In step 4 of the sync, I see the message that it is analyzing what tracks to sync, but then doesn't sync anything.

Win7 Pro x64, iTunes bugs out and freezes and error 6 trying to restore after SP1 install.

I have uninstalled SP1, and the problems have all gone away.

Now I'm waiting for Apple to get their house in order. This problem has been around for months now without any response from Apple, which is a seriously lame service IMHO.

I rely upon my computer for everything from work to entertainment. If my iTunes goes, then I am without music, as I am professional musician this has some import to me.

I just installed SP1 and my iTunes is now silent. Working in the software industry, I understand that updates present compatibility problems all the time. It doesn't make it any less annoying when a piece of software I use regularly suddenly stops because of an update.

Bump.

I installed iOS5, iTunes 10.5 and then re-installed the dreaded SP1 (64 bit).

The problem is still there for me: the iPod Touch 4 registers as "corrupt", cannot be restored (I have to restore it on my XP laptop).

Tried compatibility mode (no luck) and checked USB drivers (all registering OK). :shock:

Uninstall SP1 and it starts working fine again.

Does anyone have any good news about solving this?

speedy1971's right, itunes does have that kind of issues even with win 7 sp0.
it happens even with my ipod shuffle.

But itunes to freeze for 30mins? I'd say itunes is sumhow the cause or the major contributor to the problem. Try to maybe, downgrade itunes or reinstall..

Or try to turn off the usb power management.
Click Start-> TYPE "DEVMGMT.msc" (without quotes) then press enter to execute device manager. Then find USB ROOT HUB and right click each entry. Then select Properties and UNTICK "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

then, reboot and try syncing again.
