Your system specs and your profile both say you are running a non-actived build 7600 why are you worried about Service Pack 2 when you are not even running an up-to-date version which is build 7601?

Service Pack 2 will NOT contain any signifcant changes over the updates available from Windows Updates - historically, once the next version of Windows has been released, then advances in the surrent one are ended.

There is NO point is asking, as even when the product is in Beta, there is no fixed date.

I would suspect that teh public Beta will start fairly soon - but I wouldn.t expect it to go RTM until well after teh launch of Win8 - and probably not until the middle of next year

I've just read a comment from someone who claims to be "in the know".
They claimed that SP2 will force Metro onto Windows 7!
If true, it will mean the nightmare is getting worse! :mad2:
Of course this rumour is unverifiable.
I hope it was just random trolling.

OMG, the ZDNet forums just keep getting worse, every time they "improve them".

an *unnamed* 'well-connected' source? - the janitor, probably.

While tehre's a *vague* possibility that Metro may be offered to Win7 in SP2, to say that it could be released at the same tome as Win8 is purest hogwash - the Beta for an SP is three months, with another 3 month from RTM to GA.

It ain't never gonna happen!

The simple answer to the question is Wait and see. Only Microsoft themselves can make the decision as to if and when Service Packs are released for their currently supported OSes, but as the release of Windows 8 is imminent I cannot see that they are going to release any Service Packs in the near future.

Alomst certainly - I would expect the Beta to start fairly soon (perhaps before Christmas) if for no other reason than to avoid having a clash with an inevitable early SP1 for Win8 <eg>)

I've done a little web-trawling in the meantime, and I think I may have found the source of the so-called attribution - and it was dated April.

We're now 6 months and three releases later - it's still BS.

I'm with the others here...I'm not holding my breath on a service pack for Windows 7. I think Windows 7 is a pretty solid OS, about as solid as XP, maybe even better. Windows 7 is always fast and BSODs are exceedingly rare. If I do get a blue screen, it's usually on my company-issued laptop and every time it's been McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention that's been the guilty party.

Sure Microsoft has released a LOT of updates via Windows Update, but oftentimes those go into Internet Explorer or Office. A Windows service pack isn't going to cover IE or Office products, especially since IE is a removable component and in Europe and Korea, it's not even there by default.

If they do release SP-2, it's going to be nothing more than a glorified roll-up of patches that have been released over the last year or two. If anything, it would be nice to see them release one so I could download all the patches in one nice bundle, and if I re-image a machine, I can install the patches in one shot, rather than as individual items. Of course, that still leaves the IE and Office patches.

Microsoft has got a lot coming out this year...Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Office 2013, SharePoint 2013 and Exchange 2013. Not to mention their new Surface tablets. It's a big year for them, so I doubt SP-2 for Windows 7 is a priority.

I've always assumed that the Office SPs serve the same function.

Aren't the IE patches included in the SPs?

Apart from IE9 (listed as a Windows update) I don't see any IE patches/updates listed in my "Installed Updates".

Windows 7 Service Pack 2 probably will come jointly with Windows 8 Service Pack 1 !
but Microsoft Please Release Windows 7 Service Pack 2, with include all the update up to 31 of December 2012 at least. there are more ten 130 update, Warning to Microsoft, No matter what you do, i will NOT buy
Windows 8 ! and i will always downgrade new PC as well as. However your actions 'will caused me to consider if buying Windows 9 is be Wives, i am starting to not trust you any more.

So far as I am aware there are no plans for a Service Pack 2 for Win 7 - and no plans at all for Service Packs for Windows 8.
Windows 8 will instead be serviced by means of cumulative updates.
