Windows 7 Slipstream - Order to applying updates?

Hey everyone,

I'm preparing for a Windows 7 slip stream install using RT 7 Lite following this tutorial:

Does anyone who has experience with this know if there's a required order to applying the updates on the slip stream?

Another tutorial mentions that another program, NTLite, will apply the updates in the preferred order:

Is this the same case for RT 7 Lite or even something to be concerned about?

There are limitations on using a slipstreamed Win7 installer for Repair Install and certain other uses, so if at all possible I'd find a download w/SP1 following the suggestions in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

I agree with gregrocker. The best way to get all the updates is windows update after installing freshly SP1 integrated Windows 7 iso from Microsoft.

Thanks for the replies.

I have an OEM version of Windows 7 so downloading the iso from Microsoft isn't an option. Updating to SP1 isn't what takes the majority of the time, however. Installing the updates after SP1 probably takes about 4 hours and I want to find a way around that.

If you'd actually read Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which discusses finding media w/SP1 it tells you exactly how long it takes to slipstream in the Updates.

Why don't you ask instead of telling us what you need? We've only helped several million people with this.

Thanks Greg, I thought you were suggesting I start with SP1 and just use Windows Update after the install like easwar said. I read the threads Cleans Reinstall of Windows and Update Windows 7 Installation Media and neither one of them answered my original question.

Is there a preferred order to applying updates into a slipstream install?

Also, if so, does the Update-Win7 utility posted by SIW2 use a particular order of applying the updates?

I'd ask him in the tutorial thread comments section. Or maybe he'll be back here.

I always suggest using SP1 media, but if it can't be avoided then just keep installing Updates with plenty of reboots, watch Start menu Shutdown button for updates that want Shutdown only. A few days later it will give you the wrapper for SP1 after installing most of its updates.

What is your licensed version? If it's Windows 6 as it says in your specs then that may be your problem!

My version is not 6... I don't know how that got in there.

Still looking for an answer to this slipstreaming question. I'll go ahead and give it a test run and post feedback.
