Windows 7 SP1 Install Fail 0x8007000e

lafargeotte

I have never tried it.

I just knew where the tutorial was and you had not had any other responses.

If you need more help with the sliptream, post on the tutorial thread or make a new thread here.
Only reason I say that is you would probably get more help that way.
Someone that knows how to set it up and use it.
Not just where the tutorial is. ;) :D

Did you start this from in Windows? Mine tells me that I cannot do it unless I have SP1 installed!

Ran the slipstreamed disc from in Windows and it did the repair install perfectly, albeit it took a LONG time. I followed the tutorial at the link Hopalong posted.

The repair install took 9 hours. Language pack installs took 6 hours. Two pieces of hardware had issues, and AverTV capture device I use and my GTS 250 (nVidia). Uninstalled the AverTV device, reinstalled, Windows update had a driver for it, done.

Video card not so much. Windows installed the MS version of the nVdida drivers, then my nVidia control panel would not open. Went through my usual driver cleaning process for a clean re-install, unstaill nVidia system tools, uninstall the driver, uninstall the device, reboot to safe mode, use driver cleaner pro.

Upon reboot, BSOD.

Reboot again, use startup repair, restore from a restore point, 5 hours! Finally able to get back into Windows. The culprit was Driver Cleaner Pro. So I removed the system tools, driver, device, reboot with Ethernet disconnected so Windows will not find the driver. Installed the latest drivers from nVidia.com and then the system tools. Reboot. Working!

Install updates, no issues. Installed language packs, 6. more.hours. ARGH.

System Cleanup ran a total of 4 hours now, so I canceled it. The cause for this long time? This directory:

"C:\$WINDOWS.~Q\DATA\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player\Art Cache\LocalMLS"

Why? It has 123,451 Files, 2 Folders, all are +H +R +S, and Windows Cleanup is losing it's mind trying to figure this out. Off to the good old DOS Prompt! "Attrib -h -r -s *.*" took 23 minutes, then "del *.* /s /f /q" took 17 minutes. Disk cleanup then took 7 minutes.

Everything is running fine and I now have SP1 installed.

Let's see what happens when SP2 comes out....

Fascinating! Rep to you both for testing breakthrough on Repair Install w/SP1.

It's becoming increasingly clear that 3rd party driver updaters and cleaners do not play well with Win7. Win7 is the ultimate authority on it's drivers unless performance says otherwise. And I'd use Revo or nothing.

yOhinmba, with respect to your tag "Win7 Fan Boy" I'll pass along what someone said when I was called that:

"You are a Win7 fanboy like an astronaut is a space fanboy." :geek:

I am a fan of Windows, therefore I am a fanboy. An Astronaut had to be a fan of space, why else become an Astronaut?

I am just not a 'guru'. :p

The SP1 install on my desktop went without a hitch. I got fed up trying with the wife's laptop, ran out of different solutions. Had to give this a go, and it went smoothly. So smoothly in fact that the only thing that I had to re-tweak was the remove shortcut arrow one. Everything else that had been tweaked (including Black Viper's services tweaks) were all still in place.

Hopefully others in the same situation will find this useful.

I noticed that also. ALL of my tweaks including the PAE and AlwaysOff BCDEdit tweaks. I have the "My Documents" folder located on a physical D: drive, it retained that, although it moved the files to C: and back during the upgrade which took forever.

I think the slipstream is the way to go here, but it will cause new issues. I think MS is going to release patches to address the upgrade issues.

Same here for the "My Documents" being on D: and kept there. Fortunately there was not a huge amount there, so perhaps that is why mine took less time than yours to complete.

Perhaps MS will send us some commission for leading the way!!!

May I ask why you are applying old-school XPired tweaks and Service edits to Win7?

Some miss the point that this is the first perfectly balanced OS which is so lean it needs and can tolerate no tweaking beyond normal System Settings.

And Service tweaks miss the point that one genius of Win7 lies in moving the automatic services to Manual set on fast triggers, resulting in no performance clawback at all by disabling any Automatic Services but plenty of unintended problems. Vliting these Services out of Win7 to fit on netbooks found no performance savings at all, just a cascade of unintended consequences.

Tweaking Win7 will always come back to bite you. But it keeps the forums busy and we'll get to see you more often! :geek:

All that beiing said, it's still your rig to do what you want with. These warnings are for others who might be tempted by the latest tweak they hear mentioned. The kind of workarounds which got the slipstreamed Repair Install done sounds to me like you enjoy running a test box situation. These warnings are not meant for that, but for end consumer.

Greg,
Couldn't have said it better.
Keep my computer's lean and mean with monthly housekeeping and use a lot of common sense.

My tweaks are a throwback from tweaking XP and Viper's tweaks and so forth. Been using Windows since DOS, and have always messed with the system to get performance and features. Windows 7 required the least amount of tweaks, most of which were appearance and convenience rather than memory or performance. I seriously love Windows 7.

Uninstall language packs

The solution to the ERROR_OUTOFMEMORY 0x8007000e problem for me was to to uninstall all language packs using lpksetup.exe.

After that, SP1 installed successfully (and much more quickly!).

I had previously installed all of the language packs recommended by Windows Upadate but didn't really need them. Apparently, Win7 SP1 barfs if you have done that. After uninstalling them all (except English) using lkpsetup.exe (search for it on your system), the service pack install worked fine.

If you need the language packs you'll be able to re-install them all again from Windows Update after you install SP1. In my case I don't need them, plus they do take a lot of space so I just hid them in Windows Update once they re-appeared.

Note... I was having this problem on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit box with 2GB of memory.

I hope this helps.
