Solved Windows 7 Start Menu reaching top of the screen

Hi there,

For the record I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit in the event that helps.

So I booted up my computer today and I was greeted with the following desktop problem when I clicked the Start button: (The start button icon is modified)

No other editing programs are running, I do use Rainmeter but that was the first thing I ruled out.
I have already made sure that the start menu is not set to show previously opened documents or folders.

If anyone has an idea of how to fix this, your assistance would be greatly appreciated, I have simply never quite run into this problem before.

Hi Maxie!

Well, I had all of those options already turned off as I don't want any documents or programs shown in my Start Menu. That did, however, give me an idea. I turned all of the options back on and set the number of programs/documents shown to eight and applied it. I then turned the privacy options back off and presto, my Start Menu returned to the way it was before. I should have mentioned that my resolution was set to 1680x1050 so it would have been clearer how insanely large the start menu became after a reboot.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! This is how mine looks now.
