I am ready to pull my hair out on this one. My daughter complains about how slow her netbook is, so I've finally decided to upgrade her XP os to Windows 7 starter. I have wasted almost my entire Saturday trying to get this to work but am stuck on the install right after I get past the language setting screen. I am being prompted with the following:
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have the driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now." Then offers a browse option. Originally installing off of DVD, I decided to create a bootable USB and am installing off of that now. Both methods result in the same problem. I think it is looking for a driver for the Intel ACHI controller (ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller). I have tried the BIOS settings which offer 3 choices: Compatible (not sure what this means) or Enhanced. With enhanced I can choose between IDE and AHCI (default). I have the OEM disk with the XP driver - Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller (E:\drivers\ahci\iaAHCI.inf), which it finds/recognizes when I browse, but after installing, or attempting to install, I get the following message:
"No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media."
I have downloaded version 8.9.0.1023 for XP, Vista and Windows 7, but it seems to be RAID only drivers which it does not recognize. There is box selection at the bottom of the screen that says "Hide Drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer". removing the check from this box reveals the driver options. This is how I know they are raid drivers.
I have a technet subscription which is where I got the Win 7 Starter image. I have seen some things about the Intel Active management engine, but I don't think I need this nor could I install it as I am in the middle of trying to install. I think I am just looking for a driver, but any help or comments would be welcome.
Thanks
