Windows 7 stuck at "Starting windwos" when I try to boot my Laptop

Hello everyone,

I have an HP Pavilion DV6-6c71ef running on Windows 7 64bit, my problem is that everytime I try to boot it it's stucks at "Starting Windows" for some minutes and then a blue screen appear after than it's restart itself.

I did a BIOS Rollback hoping that will fix things, but nothing, and now I'm worry if the Rollback can make my situation worst, it could be?

my PC was so overheating, so I did a hardware checks, and it's says there's a failure on the HDD, so I think the only solution is to buy a new one? if so do I need to buy a new Windwos too? (I do have the key for the current one).

an other question, about the rollback of the BIOS, it could cause some problems when I instal the new HDD?

Many thanks for your times and sorry for my English, as it's not my native language.

In hope to read some answers from you.

Thanks ThrashZone for your reply.

well yes, changing the HDD will make me lose all my data of study, which is very bad.

do you have any idea about the BIOS? could the roll back corrupted the BIOS? if so there's any idea how to fix it?

I'm sorry for many basics questions, but I'm not so good at computers.

Hmm, not very likely for your case but BIOS rollback might have changed SATA operation mode which may be causing the blue screen. You can try changing it to IDE (best is to have AHCI).

Also see if you can copy paste your files/documents with either:

Thanks for your reply GokAy, how I can change the BIOS to IDE or AHCI?

It is called the Setup menu (it will show which key to press to enter BIOS when you first start your computer), possibly one of the F-keys or DEL etc.

Once in, check the sub-menus (arrow keys and ENTER/ESC is all you need to navigate, and find Save and Exit once/if you change a setting). It may already be AHCI which is what you want. Usually changing from IDE to AHCI cause a bluescreen if AHCI drivers are not enabled in the registry. It is worth a shot at least.

My computer is HP DV6, and I think there's no way to change the BIOS, as it's says in their forums : "AHCI is enabled by default in the BIOS, and there is no way to change it to anything else." so I guess the only solution is to buy a new HDD, I really hope that rollback of BIOS ( BIOS now is F.10) will not impose any problems in the future, I really regret it.

I really thank you guys for your help and for your time, I will mark this post as solved once I change the HDD and everything runs fine.

Regards.

Alright, before giving up did you try Safe Mode?

Also, did you backup your personal files yet? You can use either of the links I posted earlier.
