I downloaded my copy of the Windows 7 Premium 64-bit from Digitalriver, but it won't work on my computer. I understand that it's because I'm use 32-bit Vista, but from what I've seen on various places, people are able to at least unpack the .box files. I'm not even able to do that because for some reason any folder I put it in is read-only. I get this error:

error.jpg

Any ideas?

Anyone have a torrent of the install files? I have my key ready, and am ready to make an .iso to install this.. I just can't get passed this.

Hang in there.....Today is the first day any of us will have had a chance to see 'Upgrade Media' and it will take a few days to figure out how it is coded in regards to installation.

Have you tried another download yet?

I know nothing about .box files, but what are you using to open it?

It looks to me like the boot process for an upgrade might be different that a full version. If that is the case, then you might not be able to use the prior OS as needed.

I'm downloading it again at the moment.

I run the .exe and I assume it unpacks the .box files an extracts them into a folder as I have seen others have done without any issues like this.

I ran into this problem too, but I'm upgrading from Win XP x32. The solution was to go to folder properties and UNCHECK the read only option. Worked for me! hope it works for you! At least it can save you from redownloading and retrying a bunch of times.

It would not uncheck for me either on Vista and XP. Downloading it again seemed to work. I was able to get the files to extract and get the .iso ready, but had to get to work. Can't wait to see if it will install! Good luck guys!

I managed to get 7 installed from my download from digital river by making a bootable dvd, but there is no product key anywhere to be found. In the help section it says it should be in my confirmation email and on the download page, but it is in neither. Anyone else have this problem? Here's what my confirmation looks like:

Simple answer - it's not a corrupt download. Instead, it's a 64 bit installer that will not run on your current 32 bit OS.

Digital River should have been more careful to point out that the online download for the 64 bit OS would not be an ISO...but that would instead be a 64 bit program that will only run on a 64 bit OS.

No worries, as someone mentioned above, you can create an ISO from the files that are extracted. They extract fine. The error occurs after the extraction. The thread referenced above (and here) provides detailed instructions on how to create a bootable install disk from the "expandedSetup" folder that is created before the read-only error is displayed.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/30470-make-bootable-iso-student-d-l.html

If you don't feel like doing that, you can probably also just sit back and wait for Microsoft to kick digital river's butt to fix the issue before the press gets wind of this. :)

Wouldn't many of these problems never have occurred if digital river had made an ISO available for download?

I have finally ordered Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I will download the file today or tomorrow and store it on my external hard drive but I think I am just going to wait for the disks to arrive before I attempt installation.

I, like thousands of others, have been struggling through these same problems with the digital river upgrade. Spoke with Microsoft and am told it is in fact the issue with the 64 bit extractor on a 32 bit system. It seems as though the work around that is floating around, burning an iso from the extracted folder, works for many however my issue is that my files never full extract. From what I have found, the expandedsetup folder that is created for those who are able to burn the iso file is around 3 GB however; my folder is only 200mb. I tried the iso burn anyway with no luck. Anyone else in this boat? I just now got off the phone with Microsoft and it seems that their downloadable version you have the option to either download an iso file or the extractor type like Digital River. Microsoft just told me that if I do not want to wait for the disk from Digital River the only option is to return the product to Digital River as there is a 30 day trial for Windows 7 (which I am pretty sure returns or cancelations are "not" allowed per the student offer.) and then pay for a new license (full price of course) through Microsoft and choose the iso file. I would really just like to find a place that I can spend the hours downloading the already extracted folders or an iso that someone already created using the work around so I can get mine to work before waiting 3 weeks for my install disk. If I don’t find this I may just twist Microsoft's advise on themselves, as they have been ooooh so helpful, and order an upgrade version from their site, choose the iso download, install windows 7 using my student/digital river product key, and return the just purchased version to Microsoft with an unused product key using their "30 day trial". Any help from someone who is unable to extract all the files and make an iso, or really any other help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
