Windows 7 Student Upgrade Question

Here is my problem. I am going to build a desktop in a few weeks but I want to know about the OS.

I can either buy the $99 Home Premium full install Win 7


OR

I can buy Win 7 Ultimate Student Upgrade for 15 dollars (Or even get Professional for free).


HOWEVER, I was wondering if I am able to take the Win7Ultimate Student Upgrade version and use that to install a clean copy (no existing OS on the HD or anywhere for that matter) and THEN activate it with the product key from my Win 7 Home Premium edition on my laptop (It came with the laptop I did not install it myself).

So technically its still an upgrade from Home Premium -> Ultimate just on a different system.

If you have any retail copy of Vista or XP it can serve as qualifier to use Upgrade version on your new build, and doesn't even need to be installed using the tutorial in the post just above.

However if you're building a computer you should consider Builder's OEM which offers a considerable price break, although it locks to the first mobo installed upon and cannot migrate later like Full or Upgrade version.

And will you be getting a legitimate 25 character product key and a legitimate copy of Win 7?

Remember:
1 license = 1 machine
1 machine = 1 license

For example, you can't use a friend's key to their Win 7 Pro to install Win 7 on your computer and have the Win 7 validated.
