Hi all,

I have a .dat file which has the encoding type as cp942.

The file opens properly in all the text editors in windows 7.But in windows XP,they are shown as junk character.Checking the default encoding type from writting a java application i observed that the encoding type of XP displayed as ÚTF8 where same for win 7 is windows-1252.But changing the encoding type did not bring me any luck.I also replaced the font of XP (Lucida console which was displayed as being used) with the one from win 7. But no luck.
Can you suggest a way to display the characters in XP?

FYI Basically character are like this-8: $::ö:ð:ñ

Thanks for such a prompt reply.
Is there way to do this without doing any installation? I do not have admin rights on my XP m/c.Besides,can you kindly tell me the reason behind this behaviour of the two different OS?

It is not "with the operating systems" - it is the codebase of your file. Fix the file on a different computer if you can't install the converter on one machine.
