Windows 7 Ulimate 64-bit repair install freezing on "Starting Windows"

I'm trying to repair Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 English + Polish MUI but on the last step where all personal files are restored, about 600000 of 800000 them are restored then installer tells it needs reboot.

After reboot it freezes on "Starting Windows" and nothing is going on.

800k of personal files seems like a lot. Perhaps the install program can't handle that many. I would suggest moving your personal files to another device such as an hdd or flash drive and then attempt to repair Windows.

I will try to move the disk to a different machine with similar hardware, then make a repair installation again.

Who suggested to move Win7 to another PC? That wasn't what was suggested at all. I would not do that.

Offload some of the personal file load, then establish a Clean Boot of everything including AV from http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html before trying again.

Same Windows installation moved to VHD image and runned from VirtualBox where upgraded successfully.

Are you saying you did this, as if you'd actually written a full sentence?

If so was this VM on same PC? Apparently it holds the same SID and HID to keep from fouling the upgrade as it would on new hardware.

Yes, it's exactly the same machine so hardware is the same. Now I will just write the VHD image back to the disk.

The repair installation does not fix the backup error: 0x80070057

Yes, but it does not fix the problem. It seems to be something more serious - maybe some old registry keys or disk id.

Try SFC and if necessary a Repair Install from http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html.

I would run through all of the steps to go over and optimize your install. I'd also compare it to the perfect install compiled in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 to understand the tools and methods which work best with Win7, consider doing such an install yourself.

I've made sfc /scannow and no errors were found. Repair install deos not fixed that backup error.
