Hi all,

I have been fighting with two issues for the past 3 days.

1. First I noticed that the "minimize/ maximize/close" buttons no longer work on any active window. I can close the windows by Alt+f4. Can't resize or move or close or minimize or maximize. Its very frustrating.

I have noticed that this started happening since the weekend, I restored my laptop back to the last restore point (07/12/2012). I noticed that the problem did not occur. I restarted the m/c, guess what, Windows Update manager came up updated loads of stuff. Restarted and the problem surfaced again. No viruses (Online trend micro did not result any).

2. While trying to resolve this I noticed that, I can't open Event Viewer/Device manager etc.,, Comes up with the error "Unable to create a new document". And the buttons on this pop-up does not show up the text.

have been running sfc/scannow complains that kmddsp.tsp can't be repaired.

I do not know whether these two issues are related. But it is blowing my head off with frustration. Please do't suggest the re-install.

Any other help is very much appreciated.

Many Thanks
Nandoo

hi,
thanks for the reply.

I did tried logged in as a different user but still have the problem.

Strangely, when logged in safe mode, Fire Fox windows are responding to the top left buttons. Nothing else works.

Strange!!! baffled!!!

Thanks for your attempt to help me.

Try removing all non-essential programs, clean the registry, check system logs ect. see if you can dig anything up.

Try a system restore, system repair (Use the startup repair to get at it.) It may just fix the problem.

(Press F8 just before Windows starts loading.)

Did you check to see if Windows is activated under the Windows properties page? If the OS isn’t activated, or genuine, Windows may shut down.

If that’s all good, then it could be that the OS is corrupt. With that the only thing I can suggest at the moment is either do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R or an OS reinstall, but either of those is going to require an OS disk.

If you do or plan on doing either the repair install or OS reinstall I would highly suggest you research and find all the drivers needed for your hardware, even though you might not need them for the repair install.

My laptop originally came with Vista, I bought Windows 7 ultimate and did a clean install, wiping off everything.

Strangely until before last week end, randomly when I start up the laptop, it used to CHKDSK on its own and sometimes did complain about the authenticity of the OS.

Since the automatic update of Windows over the week end, I did not see any CHKDSK firing up and the OS is marked genuine.

I do't understand the problem. I am planning to do the following
1. Create a brand new user and try logging in as that user.
2. If that does't resolve the issues, I saw other posts suggesting the SP1 update could be a problem. I will uninstall SP1 and see whether that makes any difference.
3. Try repair install.

Hopefully I can nail this.

Oh!! What a fun!! and what a time to spend Christmas!!!!

SP1 is not an issue and it is highly recommended that it be installed. Those claiming it's an issue, well....

Anyway I'm kind of confused on your answer of activation and authenticity. Is the OS activated? And if the OS is complaining of authenticity you might want to look into that.

I know you say the OS now says genuine since "some updates" but I have to wonder.

It's also not normal for the OS to automatically run check disk everytime the OS starts up. Something is wrong if it keeps doing that.
