Hi all,

I have just upgraded from XP to Win7 with a clean install. After installing all the updates, the only problem I seem to be left with is the computer will suddenly shut off as if turned off at the mains before restarting on its own (Kernel Power - ID 41 problem). This happens randomly, such as when I first boot up, when I'm mid-game after playing for a couple of hours, when the screen saver is on, when I'm doing nothing, etc - you get the idea. It never did this when I was running it on XP. And, yes, the computer is more than capable of running x64 7.

Ok - spec:

Intel (Quad) Core i7 - 870 @2.93GHz (not over-clocked)
8GB Ram
64-bit operating system (Win7 Ultimate - my own freshly bought full OEM retail version)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 SE running x2 monitors
500GB HD

That's about it - pretty simple set-up. I am running 9 cooling fans in total, so over-heating is not an issue (processors run around 40-50C). Computer was bought around Feb/March time as a custom build from an on-line store. Was running XP without a hitch (installed by myself) until I upgraded to Win7 last weekend. Maybe it is worth noting that XP was not over-written as I thought it would be when I installed 7 - it is still on the hard drive (I get the choice of which operating system to use on boot-screen!?).

Suggested dump programs, etc, attached...

I hope that is all the information needed, and many thanks in advance for the help!

Dan

It's just done it 3 times on during and just after start-up. It wanted me to restore it to a previous state, which I did, and then it crashed again.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP??! Am I not uploading enough information? I so - let me know! I'm getting a bit desperate now.

Many thanks,

Dan

This one is pretty straight forward ... memory corruption. This can be due to several issues, such as mis-matched memory modules, bad memory slots on the motherboard, etc, etc. Download and run memtest86 for at least 5 passes. If you get ANY errors, you will need to replace the offending module... Read this tutorial for further information ...

RAM - Test with Memtest86+
