windows 7 update service is not running

Hi,

For windows 7 Home premium system, windows update is not running. the error shows as:

"windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running"

Also when trying to enable antivirus. It was not being enabled. But did a complete scan of system and removed 2 Trojans

For this problem, i tried these various solutions, but haven't rectified this issue.

when i checked services.msc file, there are no windows update and Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS) available.

I tried to fix it by using WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, MicrosoftEasyFix50202 and Fix wu tools. but its of no use. I tried to import registry key for wuauserv.reg and bits.reg using PSTools, but there is no impact.

I tried the following update, which gets an error "installer encountered an error 0x80070424 the specified service doesnot exist as a installed service"
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3102810)


I'm unable to rectify the issue by using the solutions provided by microsoft forums. I think this problem had existed since last 6 months, but i have identified it recently.

I have attached the winowsupdate.log file to this thread for reference.

Please do assist in this issue. Awaiting for your response.

Hi Raj,
certainly looks like your trojan totally borked WU.
Suggest you
reset MS firewall
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff428142(v=ws.10).aspx
then
Malwarebytes free, (uncheck trial enable rootkit in dashboard)
then
ESET on line dissable any other AV you have.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have reset windows firewall. Used Malwarebytes scan and removed virus, also configured ESET AV.

How should i get windows update running. I still couldn't able to view any windows update service available. I haven't tried microsoftfix or WindowsUpdateDiagnostic after virus removal.

Please suggest.
