Solved Windows 7 Virtual PC problems.
Hey everyone I have run into a wall with something in particular to Virtual PC, I have come to find out XP mode only works with Professional and higher. So that strikes virtual PC out of the question. I have a program that only runs in Windows XP and lower but I have no clue what other things I can do without having to pay to upgrade my windows to professional.
Anyone have an idea's on what I can do?
Thanks.

Hello Nick,
That's true that the
Windows XP Mode option is only available for Windows 7 Pro and above, but you could still create a XP virtual machine using any virtual machine program or with Windows Virtual PC like below. You don't have to have Windows XP Mode to have a XP virtual machine. You would just need your XP installation media and product key to use to install it in the virtual machine.
Hope this helps.

Yea that's the problem I don't have an XP disc nor a key, I may actually have a restore disc that has xp on it but it is for a Dell Dimension desktop and I don't think it would work out very well.

Yeah, that wouldn't work. It would only install and activate on that specific Dell since it's permanently tied to it's motherboard.

If you had a TechNet or MSDN subscription, you could legally download XP with a key there.
I wouldn't trust any online retailers since XP is no longer legally sold online anymore.

There is also Virtual Box which is real easy to work with.
https://www.virtualbox.org/
For the virtual box would as well have to install Windows XP?

How about a different approach.
Create a VHD from your XP installation (e.g.
with Disk2VHD ) and then run the XP from the VHD.
I have never done that myself because I never owned an XP, but it would be an interesting project.
