Greetings:
I want to install Virtual box with Linux as guest on my laptop with windows 7 ultimate.
I have almost 2GB Ram.
I have to consider at least 512MB for ubuntu.
Is this a locked memory? in other words, even when I do not use VB with linux as guest , still host system can not use complete 2GB RAM?
also when I use both host(windows 7 ultimate) and guest(ubuntu), could I add to virtual memory to prevent the machine runs slow?
and one last question, while installation of Virtual box I lose internet connection, after installation, will anything be fine? no issues?
thanks ahead
Kian William

Hello,
When Virtualbox is in use, the memory allocated to it will be used. If Virtualbox is not running, all the RAM will be available to the host system.

The internet connection will not have issues after Virtualbox is installed. The temporary loss occurs while Virtualbox installs its virtual network adapter.

While the Linux virtual machine is running the memory assigned to it will not be available to Windows. If the virtual machine is not running all memory will be available to Windows. But understand that 2 GB RAM is the specified minimum for a 64 bit OS and you will have somewhat less than 1.5 GB. This will impact the performance of the host and Linux guest as well. Nothing you can do with virtual memory will change this.

yes, that is the truth, I installed it and it is not as fast as what I expect.
yet I can work with each separately, I just want to obtain some experience with Linux.
also thinking of adding some more memory modules to my laptop so that the problem might be resolved.
thank you
