Windows 7 Windows Updates schedule in today’s world?

Recently I recovered a friends Windows 7 computer using a system image backup from Jun.
--- He used Windows 7 built in Backup and Restore.
One of the problems he had is he needed 19 important Windows Updates and 8(?) optionals.
--- I got them started.
--- He called me later and told me all of them completed successfully.
The next day he called and told me there’s more to do.
--- I told him to do them and they also completed successfully.

We are going to have a follow-up meeting in a week or 2 and I need to know how Windows 7 Windows Updates are scheduled in today’s world:
--- Which Tuesdays or other days of the month and at what times?

Patch Tuesday - Wikipedia

Microsoft formalized Patch Tuesday in October 2003. Patch Tuesday occurs on the second, and sometimes fourth, Tuesday of each month in North America. As far as the integrated Windows Update (WU) function is concerned, Patch Tuesday begins at 18:00 or 17:00 UTC (10:00 PST (UTC−8) or 10:00 PDT (UTC−7)).

1. Do not install any optional updates unless absolutely necessary. It's just bloating your PC will useless stuff.
2. You must avoid some of the so called "important" updates too. Read their descriptions, not just the titles.
3. Disable Windows Update and install updates manually to avoid malware / problems.

Rather then a constant flood of updates hoping to stay abreast of any possible "infection", you should just install only criticals and have a regular whole disk clone schedule. That way if the computer ever goes bonkers or gets infected all you have to do is pull out your clone, clone back and it will be like nothing ever changed. A lot better than depending on updates IMO which can and will mess your computer up with the fact updates it seems have a serious lack of QC.

You can use the free version of AOMEI Backupper to create a whole disk clone. I do this with all my computers, and the external HDDs that store the clone are kept in a fireproof safe. Fireproof safes rated for electronics can be had for as little as $35. Just place the HDDs in a ziplock plastic bag. If there is a fire, the inside of a fireproof safe gets moist.

Thank you both for your answers: I understand what you are saying as I use to do the same when I was on Windows 7.
In my friends case, he isn't going to understand any of that but I'll help him keep his computer up and running as it should.
He hadn't been using safe & reasonable practices but now that his computer is up-to-date and running as it should he wants to keep it that way. He doesn't want to change from using Windows 7 backup & restore procedure but since I'm a Macrium Reflect Free person, I'm trying to convince him to use it. He now knows how it feels to potentially lose his data & pictures.

I envision a "patch Tuesday" with Windows 10 that culminates to a possible Y2K event. LOL
