Windows 7 with Intel Pentium D 925

The retail Upgrade license lasts as long as the OS does, to be reinstalled as often as you wish wherever you want , since you have a retail XP copy that qualifies for it - correct?

FWIW, the Win7 Ultimate installation is counterfeit - it's an Acer OEM_SLP Key on a Gigabyte motherboard with a Gigabyte SLIC table - and the motherboard was manufactured 3 years before Windows 7 was launched.
This can only 'work' if the installation is enabled by a hacker's Activation Exploit.

Noel anything you post is worth a lot.

Mmm, is that, a touch of pessimism.

Already I am missing the "taskbar always on top" option in xp. :)

Thank you guys for your help and encouragement. Off now to the windows 8 forum to see if there is a another way to keep the bar on top.

I am now the proud owner of windows 8 pro, downloaded and installed today from microsoft shop.

Now I have to learn to use it.

If you want the Windows 7 desktop environment, then the link gregrocker posted earlier about adding the Windows 7 start menu to Windows 8 is a good way to go. I use it myself and it has worked very well. You also have the option to switch between the Windows 7 desktop and the Windows 8 start screen, simply by logging on and off without the need for a reboot.

I was asking the OP if he has retail XP.

Yes but it's now been traded up for a 8 pro licence.

I realize that. But if you have another PC's preinstalled XP OEM license it cannot be used on this PC to qualify for 8 Upgrade, which is why I asked if you have retail XP.

Since retail XP can migrate anywhere then you can also move Win8 upgrade anywhere you want, even if XP is never installed.

But once you have activated Win8 then under the EULA you should not use XP for as long as you are using it to qualify for Win8 upgrade.

Let us know how it goes.

I set up an account with outlook.com

Apparently the best way to get from outlook express to outlook is through an IE add on

Move your mail and contacts to your new PC - Microsoft Windows

I had mails going back to 2003, over 7000 in fact. It was a slow laborious process to get them up. In fact It was so slow and kept losing the server, I dumped a lot. I will probably never need them, but being able to go back has saved the day a few times.

Now I find that quite often outlook can't be accessed right away.

Is there something akin to outlook express I could get where the mails would actually be on my pc like before.?

Personally, I ditched Windows Mail some time ago - it crashed and lost data way too often for my liking!
After the third time of having to recover over 200,000 emails and newsgroup posts, I decided enough was enough, and now use Forte Agent.
