Windows 7 with Radeon HD 5770

This one is AMD the original one that came with the CPU, never tryed it, brand new thou http://img.tomshardware.com/de/2006...eich_benchmark_marathon/box_cooler_am2_3d.jpg
I want to try this one but i cant find the right screws for now LOL.
mine runs with original heatsink.
I just played Just Cause 2 in Win7 for 15 minutes, no problems, but after closing the game it when straigt to no signal input.

I gonna dl everest and check the heat of CPU and vidcard in XP then in Win7

If its the vid card heating up, then why whont it heat up under WinXP after hours of gaming?
i guess different operating systems (dx9 vs dx11).
you check cpu and gpu temps and report back :)

PhaseShift, right now my 5770 idles in Aero @ 47C (pretty hot in the room and outside) and fan speed is 35%. gpu 157mhz mem 300mhz. at full speed they are 875 and 1200.
my card has original liquid cooling system with two fans, though :)

See, I have my card set right now to ALWAYS run at 800MHz and fan = 85%, using ATI Tray Tools. I did this to prevent the card from dropping it to its default idle of 157/300.

With no load on the GPU @ 800MHz (ie. just doing stuff on the desktop), the temps are at 47C. With gaming load (45% to 65% in Mass Effect 1), temps are between 57C and 60C (with the GPU still at 800MHz).

Yeah, I was thinking that. 70s is not terribly high. Oh well, I'm just going to keep running it like this, and if it crashes, I'll know heat is not my problem, and if it never crashes... problem solved?

weird... your temps are not so high afterall.

well if it stops crashing, then of course it's solved :D

but weird nevertheless :shock:

I have no overheating issues and I keep my default clocks at 300 on the gpu and 1200 the ram and I havent had a crash in months. tho my case is a nzxt tempist airflow king with 6 fans( two on top of the case, two on the front one in the rear and one on the side). Temps on this i7 920 system are always low. Asus P6T w/750w Corsair psu.

A good stress test for overheating is to use Furmark ( google it) and temps read in speedfan. both are free and I use these at work when I reflow gpus to test stability.

Yeah I have a really nice case too, 7 fans, plus water cooling for the cpu (which isn't even overclocked!) Furmark is always stable for me 100%... Never crashes! It's only games.

Also, update on my progress... Motherboard bios update helped greatly (I was able to play Crysis in crossfire, which used to instantly bluescreen), but updating the card bios did NOT help (I went from the original bios up to the XXX bios from the xfx site). With the new bios, I'm getting weird artifacting in Crysis. Mass Effect 2 Demo bluescreens immediately at title menu.

Other things I've tried:
  • Setting voltages manually by creating a profile in CCC and specifying the voltages. Doesn't help.
  • Setting voltages and clock speeds for the cards in ATi Tray Tools (Both over clocking AND underclocking). Doesn't help.
  • Setting dram voltage to 1.65 (as specified on the sticker on the side of my ram stick). Doesn't help.
  • Disabling Spread Spectrum in my motherboard's bios (random suggestion from another forum). Doesn't help.
  • Disabling "Quiet 'n' Cool" in my motherboard's bios (also a random suggestion from another forum). Doesn't help.

I'm running out of things to try here... I'm almost at the point where I'm just going to say **** it and get a GTX, but I really don't want to. When these cards work, it's a beautiful thing. Great performance considering the price.

Strange,I played mass effect 2 and fallout 3 for I hate to say it but .... 8 hours today lol, day off :) and no crashing. I wish I had something to say here other then to try a test install of windows 7 32bit and run a game for a bit and see how it goes.

Hi guys i know this thread has been dead for a long time but i'm desperate for help.

I have a hd 5770 and for the past months i keep having tearing on my screen when playing games or just using a browser (like now), "display driver stopped working..and recovered", BSOD Atikmpag.sys and somtimes Atikimdag.sys

I have tried many many things including:

* driver sweeper
* fresh windows 7 installs 32 and 64 bit
* new drivers for the card, chipset, bios updated
* checked RAM
* checked HDD
* switched to a different, old video card seems like tears still there but less common and severe

I have this problem for months nothing works and it only seems to get worse, When I disable my video card through device manager the problem goes away but i can't play games or watch a video.
In addition now my 5770 is on 55C on idle and at 100C when i play diablo 3 (not a heavy game by any means), with open case and fan on the card it drops maybe by a couple of degrees.

Would appreciate any help and ideas, thanks
