Hello Sevenforum, first thing thank you for taking the time to read this and help me out.

I'm recently having issues with my computer. I had a perfectly working Seagate Barracuda 3TB drive [D:] running with 1 NTFS partition for backup (HTML, EXE, MP4, RAR, OBJ, JPEG, PDF). For some reason i decided to change the file association of a *.Mov file to be opened with a MP4 player (vlc player in this case), this is when the problem occurred (i think).

Now my computer won't let me open executable files (on this drive only [D:] or even view JPEG the rest of my computer works fine, but this drive wont let me execute anything, view images or load any PDF. I get an error message like "the file can't be viewed/executed because it appears to be damaged or corrupted" in windows 7.

I've spent sometime on this forum (5) days reading through everything i can find about this issue. I noticed that the files that wont load don't have anything in the value field of property (right click property > Details > Value), the other files that i do load will have something written in this field.

After reading this forum i came to the conclusion that i have to some extend a corrupt Master File Table (MFT). So far i did everything before asking anyone. I ran CHKDSK d: /r , CHKDSK /f, checked if i was infected with a virus, looked at test disk, defrag, all in all they say my [D:] drive is running perfectly and there is nothing unusual (no bad sectors).

I looked at some data recovery softwares, but they usually will recover files that are in the trash bin (i have my files i don't need anything from this option, its only that windows wont recognize them for now). I tried Getdataback but it will give me tags like 000998.pdf so i lose all my HTML due to the fact that folder integrity is messed up.

In essence what i'm trying to do is rebuild a working MFT for my files as it was before so i can execute/play/read my files, or any work around this issue. Can anyone help me with this ? :sarc:

Thanks in advance.

Can you copy a jpg file from D to C. Can you open it then without issues?

Thanks for the reply mate.

I can copy anything back and forth, delete, rename but i can't execute anything that comes from [D:] at least 65% of the files wont be recognize by windows on this drive, ([C:] works fine).

This came when i changed the file file association from a *.Mov file to a *.MP4, this created an issue on my [D:].

My [C:] was not affected by this.

"but i can't execute anything that comes from [D:] "=> So if you copy from D to C.... that file on C has the same problem?

Is D on external drive? If so... attach it to another system. Same problem?

I tested files coming from my [D:] on some other machine and wont load (MP4). The detail value from 65% of the files coming from my [D:] as vanished, (rightclick a JPEG go to propreties > Details ) and you will have a field named value that has some information on it.

I have no information on the files that won't work (take a look at the picture post #2).

Attach the D drive again to a good working machine. Copy some files for C to D. Copy to files back from D to C. open the file on C. Works?

You may delete the files afterwards

Nope didn't work, after reading almost half the forum, im pretty sure i lost the Master File Table (MFT) of some of the files on my [D:] drive (a sort of index). Without it windows will refuse to recognize them. Isn't there a way to build/repair/fix this table since the files are sitting untouched on my drive. I don't even need to recover anything other than the (MFT)

There must be a way !!!!

But chkdsk/f d: should fix it! At least report the error.

Do I understand correct?

You attached the drive to another machine.
Next you copied a file from C to faulty drive and back again. Now it has bad contents on C.

Correct? Always?
