Restarting pc gives me an error report saying "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" this screen appears no matter what I do. 2 options also occur on this screen, 1st being restart windows which returns to the same screen again and 2nd which is to launch startup repair which freezes on a loading screen(I've left it for ~12 hours lol). Tapping f8 opens advanced boot options but safe mode and repair you computer do nothing..as in no options or change in screens after I click..(I can't get to factory restore image)...can anyone help? I can provide more info if needed. tldr; halp

Sounds like you need to replace the registry hives.

Have you got some kind of boot media?

"safe mode" really displays nothing, so nothing at all? Does it freeze or can you select another option then?
startup repair which freezes on a loading screen. Please explain EXACTLY what happens if you select "repair your computer".

"startup repair" and "repair your computer" are actually the same! But you say on freezes and one does NOTHING. Impossible I think. Please explain

yes, same here

I've tried to get the Win 7 dvd to boot and pause at the system repair pages as it used to do, but not for days.

Every attempt to do the above boots, skips quickly into Windows Loading Files, and then Starting Windows (without the colors streaming up on the page middle) and then freezes. Typing f8 does the same as for Ccbsball90, and then likewise freezes machine.

I've tried the Linux based EasyBCD and other similar rescue disks, but it doesn't matter as long as the Win 7 DVD keeps doing its wrong things.
