Well I'm thrilled your netbook can boot so fast, that would be wonderful for class, what makes it boot so fast?

Just timed it, and it takes about 20 seconds from pushing the power button to a functional desktop. I have Aero turned off, no programs are set to load on startup. I also have the RAM in this netbook upgraded from 1GB to 2GB.

And sure maybe SL can't run every program, but they sure make it easy to run windows on a Mac..

Apple isn't who makes it easy. It's easy because Windows will run natively on almost any hardware; you can thank Microsoft for that. Apple are the ones who actually make it hard to run Mac OS on a PC ... so you be the judge.

I'm not trying to get everybodies undies in a bunch, I simply asked why so many people hate Apple.

I personally hate Apple because they overprice their products, they use false advertising, and they control the use of both Mac OS and iPhone OS way too tightly. So, there you go.

Just installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my 17" MacBook Pro unibody via Boot Camp with the v3.0 drivers; it absolutely flies and looks drop-dead gorgeous to boot.

I really like Snow Leopard but my other half cannot adjust to it - she cannot grasp the concept that the red dot justccloses the window, not the application with the result that a range-topping MBP slows to a crawl after a couple of days! So the dual boot is necessary, but in this case it really isn't a burden. :D

They make it easy except a lot of their bootcamp drivers dont work worth a flip.

The cirrus audio driver doesnt work properly for any version of windows.

The "service calls" are just that. Corrupt OS permissions (this happens an exhorbent amount of times on OSX), boot loader corruptions, general software/OS issues/snafus, lots of hardware failures.

Even our number of DOA brand new units are nearly 2 to 1 apple to dell.

When you dig deep, OSX is worthless in an enterprise environment. Its the most insecure operating system on the market, it lacks a lot of basic protocols that have been around for a long time and are standards, it makes use of its own promiscuous "zero config" protocols that bring networks to their knees, etc ,etc ,etc ,etc.

I could go on and on but you probably get the point.

yeah i suppose. I never said it was perfect for any means, and i still don't think that's a reason to hate them.

I honestly think people hate them for their comercials and because they are expensive..

In my opinion that's like hating a luxury car brand. They are all expensive. Some of them are equally as good performance wise as cars half the price. They all have flaws. But they look nice, and you pay for the brand, but you don't hate them

So many people just hate apple for absolutely no real reasons, doesn't make sense to me. If you don't like it fine.. by why hate?

Let me tell you that the worst part is the false advertising. I wouldn't hate Apple nearly as much if they didn't constantly mock and lie about PCs and PC users. It's very hard for me not to hate someone who constantly portrays me, and almost everyone on these forums, as nerdy idiots.

I have an issue with companies and people that can only make themselves look good by beating down someone else. You know Apple does this ... they bad-mouthed and lied about Windows 7, as an introduction to their Snow Leopard announcement. You'll notice that Microsoft never precedes a new product announcement by talking about what's wrong with their competitors; Apple, on the other hand, always does this.

All that said, I am the owner of an iPhone 3GS, and I enjoy it immensely. I mainly have it because it fits my needs better than anything else on the market, but I am intensely annoyed by their App Store approval process, especially since they use it as an excuse for anti-competitive practices. But I do use, enjoy, and recommend the iPhone, so you can't say I don't give Apple a chance.

I installed the 32 bit version of win-7 on my Acer Aspire ONE, Netbook, last night.
It runs nicely on 1.5 gigs of ram and a somewhat slow IDE hard drive. And the video is difficult to set up so everything is readable, but the sound and lan installed seamlessly.

And using information I found on this forum, I now have Windows Mail working nicely too.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results. I do have a Ghost image of the XP setup, just in case I want to go back to XP.

Cheers Mates!

Yeah but microsoft does make ads saying that macs are too expensive and that most people arent "cool" enough to own one - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=621NMj9_SR4"]YouTube - PC Laptop Hunters $1000 - Lauren "Not cool enough to be a Mac"[/ame]

Im starting to look at macs now and if i can run windows and osX on a mac then great :D

For most people, Macs ARE too expensive. I've seen that ad ... when Lauren says she's "not cool enough to be a Mac person," she's referring to the price. I can easily buy a PC far more powerful than the best Mac, for less money, and it might not be as "cool" as a Mac, and I might be considered "less cool" by everyone around me (thanks to Apple's antagonistic commercials). But I can safely say that I have been a PC user for my entire life so far, and I have had to do support on Macs from time to time, and I would NEVER give up my PC to buy my own Mac.

My laptop is cooler than any Mac I have ever seen.

Look for yourself! Google Toshiba satalite A305-S6905

Power looks and ran vista like a champ. I even used it to recover a terabyte worth of critical data from a Lacie backup drive that was running on a Mac tower in a recording studio. Some fool deleted the raid partitions. I recoverd a years worth of music in 4 days.

Lets see a Mac do that.

I upgraded 2 of my systems so far from Vista Ultimate x64 to Win7 Ultimate x64.

I would'nt trade either of them for a mac.

It is sad the way the company runs. Steve Jobs is just a crook as far as I can tell.

Well it no longer matters...Apple no longer matters.

With 7 out the market share macs gained on account of Vista will come back X10.

Now macs can hangout with Linux. They can share that 1% market share.

My dad's Vaio laptop is also way cooler than a Mac, and waaaaay more powerful, for a fraction of the cost of a high-end MacBook Pro.

I dont like laptops, i prefer to use a desktop but anyway even if a mac costs more id pay it if its worth it.

I built my pc and at the time it cost just under £3000, from looking i can get a pretty good mac for that amount of money. Yes i could build a better spec'd pc but im looking for stability, ease of use etc.

The more i use windows 7 the more it dissapoints me :(

Hi there

For 3,000 GBP / 3100 EUR you can build yourself an absolute AWESOME PC type machine. Even with a massive 28 / 32 inch monitor costing around 1200 GBP you'd still have a totally world beating machine.

(For around 750 GBP these days you can get a machine which is MORE than good enough for 99.9% of most applications typical people will want to run including most types of games
You don't need to spend ANYTHING LIKE 3,000 GBP for an absolutely awesome PC type machine).

If you prefer Apple its your choice - but costwise a PC can't be beat -- and in any case I DO prefer the User customisation you can do with W7 compared with the rather bland OSX interface.

Here again its a matter of choice but if W7 disappoints you why not SAY what the problem is or what you don't like -- who knows it might not be a W7 problem but a USER or SETUP problem.

Posts that say "I don't like W7" or "W7 disappoints me" without supplying any info whatsoever suggests only 2 things

1) Troll
2) Not much experience with computers in general or Windows in particular.

(If neither are true -- you should be able to see the point that's being made here).

There are ZILLIONS of people on these forums who spend quite a lot of time helping others - but remarks like "W7 disappoints me" without supplying any more info is not going to get you anywhere.

Cheers
jimbo

Thinking that OS X is more stable than windows shows that you are already uninformed.

Insulting people here that are trying to give you honest opinions with reasons backing it up isnt going to get you very far.

Simmer down bud. You don't have to go freaking out on people. You've stated your opinions on the way Windows 7 works and that's cool. Just leave it at that.

I hate fanboys of any kind. Long live all OS's and all consoles etc but an end to all fanyboys
