After searching the forum and finding most of the info I needed I proceeded with Win 7 pro install on my custom built Threadripper.
As you can imagine it was not easy. First Win 7 is not even supposed to be able to install on the x399 platform. I still can not get it to boot UEFI without crashing at the loading screen. So I use the CSM (compatibility support module) and it loads just fine. I downloaded and installed the chipset drivers from AMD. Found the link here on the forums (thank you). Installed the rest of my drivers and everything seems to be working great. The only driver that has a (!) is the AMD PSP 3.0 Device. I cant seem to make it go away and I cant figure out what it seems to do as everything seems to be working. (maybe it's something I don't use) I also found the link to the NVME driver here on the forums (thank you)
I probably would not of bothered installing Win 7 except I have some games that I play offline that just work better in Win 7 then PlayOnLinux in Ubuntu and not at all in Win 10.
Before I start updating Windows, are there any updates I should avoid so I don't disable X399 or Threadripper? I thought I heard something about it once, but can't remember where.
Anyway here is a pic of my basic info about the PC.
