After searching the forum and finding most of the info I needed I proceeded with Win 7 pro install on my custom built Threadripper.

As you can imagine it was not easy. First Win 7 is not even supposed to be able to install on the x399 platform. I still can not get it to boot UEFI without crashing at the loading screen. So I use the CSM (compatibility support module) and it loads just fine. I downloaded and installed the chipset drivers from AMD. Found the link here on the forums (thank you). Installed the rest of my drivers and everything seems to be working great. The only driver that has a (!) is the AMD PSP 3.0 Device. I cant seem to make it go away and I cant figure out what it seems to do as everything seems to be working. (maybe it's something I don't use) I also found the link to the NVME driver here on the forums (thank you)

I probably would not of bothered installing Win 7 except I have some games that I play offline that just work better in Win 7 then PlayOnLinux in Ubuntu and not at all in Win 10.

Before I start updating Windows, are there any updates I should avoid so I don't disable X399 or Threadripper? I thought I heard something about it once, but can't remember where.

Anyway here is a pic of my basic info about the PC.

a guy has your same PSP 3.0 issue on win7 and it went away when he installed the AMD Chipset Driver version 17.40.2815.1010, which is available on several motherboard sites if you google it. Worth a try.

If you use Simplix to install the updates, those files aren't installed.

I was able to use the Simplex installer and it was 750 MB. However after installing it my PC gave me some issues about not being supported. Then I found and installed wufuc_v1.0.1.201-x64 and now my hardware is supported again. This allowed me to use windows update (carefully avoiding the updates above) and it allowed me to install some net framework updates.

In my device manager there was still the PSP3.0 error. The update from AMD on windows update "Advanced Micro Devices Inc. - SecurityDevices - 6/2/2017 12:00:00 AM - 4.4.0.0" Failed to install on both attempts to install it. So after searching some more I found someone who fixed the error by installing the AMD Chipset driver from AMD (not from ASrock my MB manufacturer). The download from AMD for x399 Threadripper included Radeon software and updated all the chipset stuff except for .... you guessed it ... the PSP3.0 error.

Now the person that fixed their error was using a x370 MB and Ryzen 7 cpu. So I downloaded the chipset driver for the x370. I figured at worst it would not install and at best it just might work. (Threadripper is basically 2-Ryzen 7 on 1 cpu package) I installed the driver and now my PSP3.0 device ... WORKS!!! I am still not sure what it does, but I get no more errors in device manager.

Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions and to this wonderful forum for being here.
