Hello, I have some slow boot, I don't know if that's normal or not as I didn't have this slow boot with W7 x64 RC1 7100

The welcome screen will take like 8 seconds and then the desktop appears without shortcut icons, it takes 2 seconds for them to appear

My system is fast enough

slow welcome screen - solved sortof

Tried everything under the sun to reduce the time it takes to go through the Welcome screen (after you login). This is the only way that I can see doing it.

Create a new account , assign it admin privileges. Load all your programs into this account. Want it to go even faster ? then don't assign a password.

The machine startup time is substantially different than using the admin account you create when you load the OS.

Why is this a problem ? The Welcome screen for W7RTM takes about 15 seconds for a fresh login. I can't use a restore from sleep or hibernate - because my sound card stops working on restore from sleep. A reboot clears the problem. That means everytime I want to use my laptop ---- |I have to reboot, pretty useless.

Next challenge --- get the folks at HP to fix the device driver so it resets the sound card from a restore sleep/hibernate.

Other than that --- win 7 is a huge improvement. Speed and reliability.

PS using a dual core amd 64 HP Pavilion DV3-1124 --- machine is the fastest I have seen running 4GBmem and a SSD 120gb drive.

Welcome to Seven Forums.

What speed is your HD? (Need some more info in the system specs)

Do you have a number of accounts for login? That could be slowing it down.

A lot of icons on the desktop, or a large wallpaper file?

My laptop takes longer than the desktop, but both take a bit of time. Eight seconds may not be too bad.

Folks - apologies - I spoke too soon. It appears the long winded welcome screen after the login (same affect with auto login/no password) is back. Guest account does not have this problem... but it also has a STANDARD user permission pack - which is useless. So I am back onto a search for the elusive mystery related to the post login Welcome. RC did not have this issue nor did any of the beta releases. One gent commented on the speed decrease between beta and RTM --- I tend to agree. Win 7 still runs quickly once its up.
