Windows 7's first 100 days: So how were yours?

The tv tuner card application is one thing being an annoyance at first with any clean install of first the beta builds only for the 32bit there, the RCs once a Vista update was finally seen, and now going backwards to the original software/drivers for the 32bit retail while the 64bit Vista update was saved. Once setup however no further problems are seen.

With the 32bit retail one good news was seen with one old XP program that won't run on any 64bit Windows but is now running on the 32bit 7. Surprizingly the old 4.0 version has turned out to be more reliable then the latest 7.2 that supports the 64bit platform as well as the 32bit Vista/7!

However I'm not upgrading my Vista right now because
my Mobile Rogers Rocket USB works with Vista
but they (Rogers or manufacturer ZTE have not
come up with a Win 7 Driver, yet.)

Try it with the Vista drivers on 7. You'll like it! :D

A great deal of the updated drivers are still Vista for a number of hardwares, devices but still work on 7! As far as backward compatibility I manage to get more older XP versions of programs running on the 32bit 7 then on the 32bit Vista previously run including one finally running that will no longer need to see XP or Vista go back on.

How do I do that?
The Rogers Connection Manager installed itself when I plugged the stick in, but it does not show me any "wireless" connection to connect to.

Thanks

The best place to look for online help with that would be at http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.po...&setLanguage=en&N=4294966681+42+15+4294966640

It also depends on how you configured the network settings when installing 7 as well as looking at what is seen under network adapters in the device manager. Capability wise I can run old 2000, XP dsl usb adapter drivers on the 32bit 7 but not on the 64bit there. I had a change of ISPs entirely and still needed to buy a separate updated modem for the new ISP to connect with the 64bit.

But with Vista support already is this on the 32bit or 64bit 7 there?

I started with the beta (invitation), RC and RTM... Early on, I had only two programs that didn't work with Win 7. They both have gone with the 'flow' and everything works perfectly!

Of course I'm absolutely loving it

I'm really happy with Windows 7... from build 6519 right up through RTM.
Really happy.
What drives that home is going back to Vista, which I have to boot from time to time for certain chores. I was running my lean build of Vista Ultimate x64 SP2 most of the day yesterday and what a difference! Night and day. I almost forgot how much Vista is constantly grinding away at the hard drive and doing things which apparently (vis-a-vis W7) are unnecessary.
W7 FTW!

When forced to upgrade not perform a clean install you want the previous version(Vista obviously) in top running condition with all programs also in top shape in order to see any type of smooth upgrade with things running as they should. Too often by the time any upgrade comes along the drive along with the existing installation are simply too polluted and end up with a list of problems!

Horrible horrible horrible

Installed the upgrade last week on my Alienware M17x and it hasn't worked properly since!

System keeps hanging, wont come out of hibernate, numerous driver issues, can't connect to wireless network and just noticed I now have a bluetooth peripheral device problem too.

Been there, took the tour (even chatted with them).
No "real" help.

It also depends on how you configured the network settings when installing 7 as well as looking at what is seen under network adapters in the device manager. 64-bit

When I'm in over my head, I'm reluctant to take risks beyond
extremely detailed instructions as one would give a complete ignoramus.
Lick the tip of your finger. Place your fingertip (still wet) on the
top right-hand corner of the page (that big white rectangular thing
with lines of black objects running across it). Drag your fingers in a 45 degrees
angle SouthWest. That will turn the page. :o Oh BTW that's for non-ebooks
(unless you have a touch-screen, in which case take your finger out of your mouth.)

Sorry to hear they weren't any help there since that's their program to start with. You might want to start a separate on this in case someone else here at SF has time with it and has run into similar problems.

Speaking of problems there was one item that came up on the 32bit 7 but not seen on the 64bit installation when first initializing the tv tuner card. Once the drivers went on as usual but saw a stubborn app side was finally ready for use the initial change of input settings which then started bringing in the picture the screens on both monitors suddenly saw a total blackout!

Hitting the ctrl-alt-del after clicking and double clicking on the screen did nothing forcing use of the reset button and simply selecting the start Windows normally option. Once back at the desktop the tuner app was started up right away to then see a normal display appear! Apparently this was a one time event except for hearing from someone else who saw the same thing on the 64bit 7 when going to log onto a familiar site.

In both events the hard boot and selection of a normal startup returned everything to normal without any further problems seen. Apparently these were software related without any BSODs in either case.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on MainPC, Home Premium on 3 other pc's (should have bought Professional and would have if M$ would just give us a family pack..darn it).

Everything just works although I had to resolve a few issues that I had already solved and forgotten about with the Release Candidate. Everything is smooth sailing now and I am back to Rock Solid...no issues.

This is what I have come to expect from Microsoft....95 was good.....98 not so good......98se was great...2000 pro was even better (skipped Me, paid extra to get 98se instead on my gateway pc).....XP was stellar....Vista not so great (better after SP1)....Win7 makes up for Vista...can't wait for Win8 Beta/RC.

This is the first Microsoft OS that I recommend people NOT wait until SP1 to implement.Good job Microsoft.....

Rock on.

I was a Win XP user since 2003. I got 7 the day it was released, and I love it. I never thought I could part ways with XP, but 7 is so much better...it actually uses my computers resources. Now I hate using computers at work and school because they still run XP...hopefully IT departments will upgrade with much nagging from users :)

I'm ok with it. Still gotta run A LOT of programs in it (specially games) and see how it plays out. Only trouble I had was installing the right drivers for my sound card (which hasn't locked my system up in a long while, now that I come to think about that). Apart from that, 7 is the best windows up to date.

So far I've managed to get several older game titles as well as newer ones on 7 starting with the beta builds onto the RCs with the 64bit still running on one drive here plus the retail 7s without problems. The image here shows a new toolbar added onto the taskbar just for managing the shortcuts for those presently on.

7600

I like 7. It's my favorite Windows OS yet. ;)

I've been using it from build 7100 and bought the RTM 7600 dispite some minor issues.

Mostly surronding the sleep issues 7100 and 7600 I've expirenced throughout the expirence.

I really don't like the fact that 7 will not sleep in any manner after install on the OS and all the normal drivers and I had to search for days on forums only to find that the reason for this was that I had to download 7 drivers for my MICROSOFT Mouse.

I don't like that despite having all the latest drivers on a fresh install, having relatively new hardware (within six months) and even trying betta drivers that I still cannot use Hybrid sleep. This is a cross platform problem since the 7100 build and Microsoft's official responce is "it's a driver issue". I know it's a driver issue but I think MS should have worked towards a resolution to this. I have disabled the Hybrid sleep and everything works fine, but for $200.00 I want it to work. If you bought a MOBO with six SATA ports and only five worked you'd probably return it for a replacement even though you'll never use the sixth port.:geek:

Another issue is that I've not been able to get Crysis to run on 7 X64 yet, havn't really checked into. All other games I've tried work great.:)

All that being said and because some of the real hardcore 7 enthusists here scare me. I really do like the OS and think it is the best yet.:D
