Windows 8/8.1/10 style search in Windows 7

Hey,

One of my favorite features in windows 8,8.1 and 10 is the ability to hit windows S and type the first few letters of the name of a folder/file, name of an application to pull up the desired item.

Is there any way to get a similar result on windows 7? I know I can activate an address bar to web search in the taskbar. But are there any taskbar pluggins that perform similarly to the windows 8+ search function?

Get Bing desktop search which is pretty much the same as the newer version of windows have.

You might want to give Everything Search a try.

It's not a taskbar plugin, but rather a System Tray object that you single-click to open. But it works exactly as you'd want, and produces its "ever-shrinking hit list" as instantly quickly as you type the consecutive letters of your search argument in the search field. You can then sort the "hit list" by column headings if you want, double-click or right-click and select from the context menu on an item in the "hit list" to launch.

Give it a try. Very highly regarded by many Forum members.
