Windows 8 Faster, Smaller, and More Responsive than Win

I'm all for new features, but a GUI is not among the items on my list. That has been the problem with the last few versions, too much emphasis on appearance, and not enough in making what is there work properly. other than that the primary objective of a new OS should be new functional features. I really don't enjoy paying for a new OS to find few new features, but a lot of GUI and shell changes that force me to do things a new way to accomplish the same result.

Sometimes, I get the feeling that MS's primary goal in development is to give the feeling of improvement, but to spread out real improvements to dangle on a stick like a carrot before the mule, so that everyone keeps tugging along.

Of course they are going to talk about the development of Windows 8, but it won't be released until at least 2012. It has been the norm for Microsoft to produce a new OS every 3 years. The reason for the delay between XP and Vista is because they started building on XP and scrapped that to build it based on Windows Server 2003. I am excited for a new OS. As technology gets better and better we need better OS and software to utilize the hardware. GPU's(top of the line high end) are so far ahead of the OS and games available that it is almost pointless to spend a lot of money on the best Graphics Card available. I can't wait for Windows 8 and will be testing it all the way through just like I did with 7 and I can't wait to see what's next.

Ditto. Besides that, Windows 7 hasn't even been out that long. Why would Microsoft be so concerned about releasing a newer OS? That's just stupid if you ask me. Why not concentrate on making the minor adjustments to Seven first? If anything, I would like to see a service pack for Seven released before a whole new OS is. Just like XP, they should run Seven into the ground before they go the new OS route. Talking about Windows 8 already, kinda' ticks me off to be honest with you. If Microsoft has/had new ideas, then why not slap it into Seven? WTF are they thinking?

They are thinking they want to make money. Why add new features to an existing operating system if they are not legally required to?

A new OS isn't as bad as many of you are making it out to be. If you don't feel like dishing out more cash, then don't. I personally don't want to wait 3-5 years just to see a new OS.

+1 end of the day, unless your one of those people who have got to have the latest and greatest OS (and i realise alot of the people on here are, so take what im about to say with a pinch of salt) the date that they release Win8 is not going to make a jot of difference, people will just get it whenever they next buy a new PC, to joe public, windows is windows, they dont care what name its got, as long as it works, personally, i wouldn't mind seeing win8 in say 2012 (i think this is likely the earliest we will see an RTM) because by that point, hopefully i will have bought a machine which will be able to handle it, (this pc is behind by todays standards, so no way it will handle Win8)

Personally the reason i upgraded from Vista, isnt because there was anything particularly wrong with it, its just i wasn't quite happy with it, although i couldn't tell you why. conversely with Windows 7 i can unashamedly say that i am in love with it,

on the other hand, i think Win 8 is likely to be a major overhaul, i'm just hoping they dont end up with another Vista in terms of compatibility, if they score another Home Run like they did with 7, then roll on Windows 8!

anyone like to take bets on whether they will actually call it that? i'm betting not

I still work with XP and Vista. We have many users with these OS's that need specific help.

I totally enjoy my Windows 7 Ultimate, but when Windows 8 arrives, I know I would enjoy that too. My work is never done

I completely agree. And it would seem like them doing this would make them lose money, but that's just me. As many of you know, I'm no expert. :/

I got into the early betas of Windows 7 mainly because I didn't like Vista. It turned out to be fun and I appreciated being able to make suggestions via Technet etc.
Obviously Windows 8 development needs to happen & I will be happy to test that too.

However, I really would like Microsoft to focus for now on whipping Windows Phone 7 into shape.
Surely they are just joking about leaving out multitasking and copy/paste (its been there for years).
I'd hate to see MS copy (three years later) mistakes Apple's mistakes (which they are now fixing to some extent in OS 4.0). After all the great work done on Windows 7, a half baked Windows Phone 7 would reflect very badly on MS.

I want to see full blown table top integration like the concept Windows Table Top that I have seen around.
That would be awesome. Or the Wall Version that is used with a projector that allows you to throw items around, from one screen to another or to smart phone and back..

That's the way it works.
The beta should be out in a year and a half, and the release less than a year later.

I'll be testing it as soon as it shows up

If your happy with any OS you have, then enjoy it, no one can force you to buy a new one.
