Why do they call it 8, or why is 7 called 7? From my count niether of them are the 7th or 8th edition. I kind of liked the name Vista because it got microsoft away from the number system.

Honestly the names don't bother me, it's more the fact of how they run. And windows 8 honestly sucks.

I checked Wiki and it looked like there have been about 20 Windows OS's, not counting the server editions.

Really lol I only remember win 96,98,me,2000,xp,vista,7 and 8 unless it's counting every version of it like for example home,pro and every x86 and x64 version of windows known to man

It's the 8th release of a Windows NT-based version of Windows:
NT3.1, NT3.5x, NT4.0, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.
