Is your OEM key in the battery compartment?
If not your OEM key is universal, being that it will work on any similar machine. The key is purchased from Microsoft so that it can be installed on many similar computers, a blanket license key so to speak. Knowing what make and model your lappy is, I'm sure someone on the Forum would know the OEM key or have a lookup table. I don't unfortunately.

Again, your computer specs you posted are no help in this matter.

Okay. If you have not reinstalled your laptop and there is an original OS in it with the product key from the laptop, it can be fished out of the computer if it is either bootable, or the hard drive is intact (unformatted) so you can put it in a another computer and run a program that reads the product key from the windows registry.

an OEM key "can" only be used "legally" on one computer, the product key is checked when a computer is "online" and can "connect" to microsoft servers and then check status. (I do not remember how often it pings and checks or if it's only when windows updates)
The rules of this forum forbid the rest of us here to explain how to manipulate windows activation and "how to use OEM keys on custom-built computers".
So I can't help you as I care about my membership in here.

Okay. If it had been a manufacturer OEM win8 computer, the product key would have been burned in to bios. I don't know if some OEM keys for win7 are also in bios. There are programs that can read these burned-in bios keys
I don't have my lab-windows computer running, so I don't remember what the program was called that can read it. But I think SIW2 in here knows what program I'm thinking of.

For win8 msdm table Rweverything might be the program Marie is thinking of. I believe nir sofers produkey does it as well. Not sure how that is relevant to the OP's desktop machine.

He has already been given the answer to this:

so after using aomei backupper to restore windows on my laptop, it seems that microsoft has disabled my windows key, possibly because it has been moved from my desktop to my laptop.

Therefore he needs a valid win7 license for the laptop. One way is to use 7oeminstaller - but that will only work if the laptop has the correct slic table that entitles win7 on that laptop.

MS might block the desktop key if they think it is being used - or attempting to be used on more than machine at the same time. So he needs to phone them to sort that out.

But I am missing one that works in linux environment, so I can use a linux computer if it is a relay bad virus infected disk and I need to retrieve product keys.

No, I have not tried that, I have only been using Linux for two years, so I'm still learning. But I'll give it a try, thanks for the tip.

I have two usb memories to boot up recovery environment with lots of tools if I'm just going to fix a crashed computer that does not want to boot up. But most of the time I move over the hard drive to my Lab computer so I have more options with multiple operating systems (winXP, win7, win8.1, Fedora, Kali) The lab computer has everything from FDD, MFM, Pata, Sata, three different scsi generations... So my lab computer can read all disks from old to modern.

I will never ever, ever,ever use win10 spyware to myself, not even during gun point. *haha*
that why I started using linux 2018 to learn the basics before win7 EOL 2020. I have bought myself 3 more years by using win8 for some things I haven't solved in linux yet.

I had win10 installed for two months on my lab computer to learn win10, so I can help others who insist on using win10 so I can help them to turn off the telemetry and block the spyware features...... for those who want it turned off.
there are some features in win10 that stop working if you want to get it spyware free. But it is possible.
win10 is more PC-user-friendly than win8 but that's all positive I have to say about win10.

for this I have hacked a win10 ISO and I have ripped out cortana and some other programs so they won't install.
The problem is that when major updates come, you have to redo the procedure as win10 is rolling release.
this is possible to block by blocking updates, the problem then becomes that the operating system does not receive security updates.

another method is to go into the file system and take ownership of some .exe and .dll files and sabotage the content in them and make sure that the trusted installer and operating system can't overwrite or delete them. That way, when a major update comes, windows will not be able to restore spyware features.

but the easiest way is just not to use win10 Go Linux

just my own inner frustration, I miss windows sometimes. sorry.

yes I know, but it's easier to stop the telemetry in win7 and it's not as extensive as in 10. Win8 which I have to use now for some things, is the telemetry pretty embedded in. not as bad as 10, but not far off.
google, facebook, apple and some more I also boycott.
the advantage is that once you have modified wi8, it stays that way. no major updates restore what has been modified

so it's only my frustration that makes me mumble.... sorry to you all for this one more time.
There's a lot in my life I'm frustrated over right now, so maybe the world should be better of if I had an internet ban sometimes.

Windows 7 does not have key stored in BIOS, Win 8, 8.1 & 10 do, so you can eliminate the ones that search BIOS.

Belarc Advisor provides a great deal of info regarding your system.

You won't find the product key if it isn't entered/installed.

I'm sure one of the forum members has/knows the OEM product key for your laptop. Maybe they will chime in and provide it for you. I've been searching the net, nothing so far!

i have already tried to call microsoft, theres a message in french (?) that says a message then it hangs up. is there no way to activate windows 7 by phone anymore?
