Windows and Linux Backup solutions

I've read tons and think cloning is the only way to go. I'm hoping to find an appl to clone XP, 7 and Linux Mint (for now) to partitions and data to DVD and/or thumbdrives.

Forums on every site show problems w/every appl: Acronis, Windows built in, Macrium, etc. I don't know if hardware issues would cover some of the problems but many posters are well versed professionals so I doubt user error is always to blame.

Looking for suggestions from users who have successfully cloned to new hardware for Linux and Windows. I figure is anything dies besides just the HD I'll be covered. Currently believe Paragon BU & Recovery in it's various flavors, outclasses Acronis. But it doesn't cover Linux OS's.

My own experience is that Clonezilla can't be beat when it comes to do image backups and/or clones of Linux filesystems. Some have also used that for Windows filesystems, but my own preference is Macrium Reflect.

I do know that all the major Backup vendors keep talking about including Linux filesystem backup/restore in their products, but I don't know that any of them have actually done that. Since Clonezilla does the job for me, I haven't bothered to find out.
