Windows Auto Shutdown - Help

My windows shutdown automatically. The problem appeared just after I connected iPod but it has now become common. Now my windows shutdown even if the iPod is not connected. I even reinstalled my Windows 7 but the problem not solved. It proves that it is not a software problem, it should be hardware problem. What can be reasons? Overheating? PSU?

PS: It generally shutdown when I play any game or I install any software. It shutdown without giving any message, it doesn't restart it just shutdown.

I am quite annoyed of this problem as I can't save any document and all the data is lost when system shutdowns. So please help, I will be very thankful. Thanks in advance

This is probably because of the CPU overheating, as you mentioned it's when you're playing a game or installing software, both which takes quite alot.

I'd check the heat on your computer, on everything from CPU to the motherboard.
If the CPU is 55C>, get some cooling paste.

You have to force a BSOD so that you get the Bugcheck codes. Once you have the codes, post them here and we'll see. Here is the setting to avoid the automatic restart and force a BSOD:

Your "System Specs" is a little sparse. Could you fill in some of the blanks there? The amount of ram you have, the computer--this info would help.

I'll go ahead and shoot blind. Take a compressed air can and blow out all air vents, fans, dust in general. Choose either balanced or power saver modes for power.

Try following:
WIN + X
In the Battery Status section, choose Power Saver

Make sure that the fans are running. DO NOT BLOCK air vents!

Agreed. I would also like to add you need to check this IMMEDIATELY. Overheating can indeed fry your hardware [especially the CPU] if not addressed in a timely fashion.

My core temperature is now 58. It hasn't gone above 62 since yesterday. I didn't check the temp before yesterday so don't know how much it was.

Can anyone tell me the maximum temperature of E2140 1.60 GHz?. My CPU average temp is 62 C. Maybe that's causing shutdown?

Don't know the max temp. I suggest visiting the manufacturer's site.

Are you having any problems? If yes, then take an ordinary floor or desktop fan, point it at the computer. That will probably bring the temp down several degrees. if problem, goes away then your problems are heat-related.

What you most likely need is a new heatsink.

Till now I was checking the temp wrong. I thought core temperature which is displayed in Rivatuner is CPU temperature. Now when I check my CPU temperature from bios it was 88 C and considering My PC maximum temperature is 63 C, it is too high :shock:

Help me guys, what should I do. I don't think I will buy new processor soon enough so what to do now?

First off... is this a self-built system or did you purchase it complete?

If it's purchased, send it back and let them fix it.

If you've built it yourself... It sure looks like your CPU heatsink is not installed at all correctly... You should shut down the computer, dismount the heatsink, clean the goo off the CPU and Heatsink base... get rid of anything that even looks like foreign substances... apply a blob of heatsink grease (Arctic Silver is the best paste) and reassemble it making absolutely certain everything is sitting straight and locked into place.

Then see what your temperatures are...

CPUID's HWMonitor is the best tool.... (Google is your friend)
