Can someone tell me why you can't make a backup image to disc with the Backup and Restore Center?

Hello Aaron,

I'm not sure why MS designed it that way, but I have no problems backing up the system files when using another partition or drive as the backup location.

Hi Shawn,

Yeah, it really ticks me off. I really want to save a backup to disc with windows backup. I have paragon too but still, I at least want to do it that way as well. It was good with Vista, I just don't understand why they would have it like this. Maybe they'll change it when finalized. Thanks

Just did and image backup. The options for DVD where there. Do they not work, I didn't try them.

When it was done, it asked if I wanted to create a bootable recovery disc. I did that. Then I tried the disk and it gets to where it lists the OS's and whatever I do, I get a warning that this disk is not supported in this OS. Please get a disc that is compatible (basically). All I can do is exit. Anyone else tried it?

I have both a tower and a labtop testing windows 7 32 and 64 bit versions. I've done full image to separate drives only so far. On the lap top I had done the image before I had installed all sorts of programs that worked well and not so well. I felt like now would be a good time to test the system and see if I could load that image I made when the system was spanky clean.
Inserted the restore CD and rebooted. I forget the excat choice but basiucally I chose to restore from the image on the separate drive. It warned me that the C drive would be formatted and I would loose all my data. Fine with me! I rsees the button and after a few seconds the process starded. It took about 4-5 minutes for a 16 gig image to load. I removed the restore cd and restarted windows 7. Everything was back to the original condition. There weren't any "Old" windows folders to trash either. So at least on this machine it worked perfectly.

When I was creating the image I had a choice of drive location or DVDs. I think the basic WIndows 7 install is somthing like 15-16 gigs so you can imagine it would take several DVD-5s to create that image on Optical media. I put my image on an external 500 gig USB drive.

Aaron,

As Gary mentioned above, you can create a image backup to DVD instead of creating file type backups that cannot.
