I had someone put Unbuntu on my computer and I don't like it. I am trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium. I was able to erase Unbuntu and have installed the Windows 7 Disk. I install it in safe mode but I keep getting stuck, states that
"Windows cannot be installed in the hard drive space. Windows must be installed into a partition formatted as NTFS. Windows cannot be installed to the hard disk space. The partition is of an unrecognized type." I have downloaded from a link in this forum what I thought were the drivers needed. That did not help the situation. In the help section of the computer, it states I can use the "advanced set up" and load the create a partition but I am not having any luck there either.

I am sorry that I don't know much about the specs of this desktop.

Please help. I would greatly appreciate any help. I am not an IT person; everything I know is learned by research or asking others.

Thanks so much for any input.

Thanks for the quick response. I can get to the area where it will allow me to "browse" for the drivers. I downloaded the drivers form this forum question http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html and put the exe. on my USB. I placed that in the other computer USB port but when I "browse" to get to that area (which I can see on the computer screen and can even open it); nothing happens. It continues to pop up with the same error message that I started with. Any other suggestions?? :)

Hi,
I have been trying to follow the instructions from Troubleshooting Windows 7 but I do not see any of these items when I go into bios set up mode. *"Search all tabs in BIOS setup for evidence of an EFI BIOS, including settings choices for UEFI, CSM, Legacy BIOS, Secure Boot, or UEFI Boot choices in BIOS Boot Priority menu."

Also it states before that = "reset to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI, Hard Drive first to boot, Save changes and Exit. An SSD may have newer firmware to install on its Support Downloads webpage."

I can reset to defaults and I can change the SATA to "enabled" or disabled" but nothing else.

I am unable to find any of the above mentioned quoted instructions at all. Can you help?

Regards!

If there is no newer BIOS version or evidence of those settings then you are good to proceed with the rest of the steps.

Thoroughness is a strong ally. Keep us posted.

Hi Thanks again! I got to the systems recovery stage and put in the information but when I input "SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)" - there is no target listed. It states:
Disk 0 #### = Disk 0
Status = online
Size = 232 GB
Free = 0 B
Dyn =
Gpt =

FYI - I went ahead and continued through the set up and after I put in "FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"" - It states "23 percent completed" and then just stops doing anything.

Test the hard drive with the makers diagnostics CD scan in Troubleshooting tutorial below. If you have a full disk partition and waited long enough for full format, also run the Disk Check from installer Repair Command line.

I've changed from Linux to Windows a couple of times and found it best to boot to a GPARTED CD first and wipe out all partitions on the HDD, give a truly clean start. Linux, Mac OS X and Windows all use differing formats.

I just checked the computer again and now instead of 23 percent complete - it says 100% complete. What do I do from this point?

It now states "DISKPART = LIST DISK A"

Berton,
I am sorry to sound stupid but I don't understand how or why I need to check with a moderator. I am stuck at the point that Gregrocker got me to but I do not know what to do from here. It states that you made it solved; are you saying you did not mark it solved? If you did not, can you please assist me in contacting an administrator. I am new to any forums of any kind so i am not sure how this process works. However, my issue is not solved as I do not know what to do from here.
Regards
