Windows Could Not Complete The Installation

Hello.
I had a Windows 7 installation but then installed Windows 8 over it, a few weeks ago.
I felt like my computer was getting too bulky and slow, so I decided to restore it to the factory conditions (system restore) by using my Windows 7 recovery disc. The restore finished and restarted, and went right to the Windows 7 loading screen, where it ended in this error message:
Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.
I can't restart the installation though, since the "System Restore" option is grayed out on the Win7 recovery disc.
Please help me. Thanks!

I've got news for you Factory Restore and System Restore are not one and the same.

To correctly advise you please fill out your system specs to best of your abilities. Very important is to know the manufacturer of your computer, the precise model of the computer, and whether the computer is a laptop or a desktop.

I realize you will not be able to follow this write-up to the letter, but the write-up will serve as a guideline.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

Welcome to SevenForums ProximaC

I prefer not to use 1st the Recovery Disc, better to check 1st the Restore Point the last time you install the Win8 OS.

Can you give a try and check for Restore Point that you have install Win8 OS.

Let us know what happen. :)

Thank you sir karls.

I don't have any restore points.

Okay then.

As what you have mention you use the Restore Disc, while Disc is running a window will pop up there are choices to select look for Restore Point.

Restore Point is a default help if we get in trouble.

If you did a full restore with recovery disc then Windows 7 should work after the process. I have done several system restores with the disc on my Toshibha laptop and all worked fine.

You should never install Windows 8 over Windows 7. You should create a new partition and install Win 8 on that new parition. So you can dual boot Win 7 & 8.

@ anandntvm,
There are many different ways of installing win 8.

I recommend that you visit our Win 8 forum.

For your general edification, the term "recovery disc" means different things to different people. Thus, we must be careful and precise with our recommendations.

Let us await another post from the thread starter to avoid misfires.
