Windows crashes on certain softwares

Yesterday, my two year old nephew pressed the power button while I was browsing the Internet. It was a normal shut down, not a hard power off. Of course, the shutdown caused all the running programs to jack out.

Since then, i am having weird crash problems. It seems certain softwares are affected.

I mean - my PC boots fine. Temps are okay. However, after the power off, whenever I would launch ChromePlus (a browser), it would immediately crash my PC, resulting in BSoD after a couple of mins. So i deleted ChromePlus, and everything back to normal. I played the PC for 2 hours last night, even some light gaming (Rage), and it was perfect.

This morning, the PC crashed again when I tried to launch Calibre. I restarted, launched MSN Messenger, and crash. I did this again, and crash. Again, and crash. It would ALWAYS crash when i launch MSN Messenger and start connecting to my account.

I am not sure what the problem is. I would hate to reinstall Windows, but i will swipe it clean if I have to. And that reminds me, i checked for malware and virus and found none.

System rig:
i5 750 @default
4GB of RAM
60GB SSD (Windows drive)
GTX 570
250GB 7200rpm HDD

Any help would be appreciated!

I think I'd try System Restore to a date prior to your nephew's assistance. If that doesn't work I'd try running System File Checker (Option Two in the tutorial.) If SFC finds any damaged or corrupt system files, run the scan two more times rebooting after each scan.

If this doesn't help you might want to post this in Crashes and Debugging and follow the BSOD instructions here:

Hmm. I am running SFC, let' see if it finds anything.

I think the problem is with Live Messenger. Every time I try to connect my account, it freezes the whole PC. I uninstalled it, completely clean with Rev Uninstaller, yet it still does that upon reinstall. That's annoying as hell.

Everything else seems to working just fine.

SFC complete. It found damaged files but could not repair them :(
