After the May round of patches whenever the machine is coming out of sleep or hibernation it crashes and ends up doing a clean boot. There is a dialog saying it recovered from a BSOD but I never actually see one just a restore then a crash and reboot.

Never had any problems restoring before this round of patches.

Most of your BSOD point to nvlddmkm.sys, which is the nvidia display driver.... Based on what you mentioned here ..it could be that nvidia drivers where updated via windows update...

Now here are some things you can do .....

First update drivers by going to nvidia site directly and using the automatic detection to check for new drivers...

Secondly go to the Lenovo support page for your laptop and search for 2438-CTO.... which is your laptop model...

Thirdly... there are update for your BIOS and other drivers as well ... please update it.

One last point to note is that at the bottom of the list of drivers you will find the Tab for Windows update .... update all the hotfix mentioned there .... specially Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) Update Module KB2459268 (WW) - ThinkPad which is the hotfix for laptop entering or resume from S5 power state.

Do these and let me know..

It being nvidia related would make sense. I know I'm not running the latest version as last time I updated it messed up booting and wouldn't go into full high res.

I'll work through your suggestions and see if things improve.

Partial success. I installed the BIOS, NVidia and Windows update and for the next couple of hibernations it continued to do what it was doing then, without any more changes, it started working again. Up to now it seems OK and is coming out of both OK but I'm still making sure I save everything before closing the lid.

How did you work out what I was missing? Was it manual or have you got a way to automate checking? If it is automated I'd live to know how as keeping up-to-date by hand is a pain.

Well based on the files you uploaded...Checked you MSinfo file to look at the bios version. Then analysed the BSOD dumps you post... and then looked at the motherboard website to see what version are currently available and if there are any additional updates for the drivers or bios..

You could be notified abt the drivers and bios update using the manufacturers update utility... but its more of a pain being resident in the memory and eating the space... You see most updates don't happen every week or even six months... It happens in a year or so... They do these update based on the feedback received from the customer.

Now i know its a pain to update by hand... but i suggest do it .. because you have the control of what gets installed and

Well if you think your issue is resolved , please mark this thread as closed and REP those helped.
