Hello all,

I'd be interested to know your opinions on the above defragging programs.
Is the built in Win 7 defragger a better option than Perfect Disk 10.

I've downloaded a trial version of Perfect Disk but have yet to defrag. It states my c: is 4% fragged where as the Windows one reports it as being 8%.

Any idea whether one is more efficient in defragging than the other, or do they both basically do the same job??

the biggest advantage the windows defragger has, is that it's free.

it fufills all my defragging needs, and only serious hard-core defraggers need to spend money on their 'problem', in my opinion. :)

there are other free defraggers out there - i would suggest trying them before parting with cash.

Auslogics is supposed to make a good free one.

I use a paid one that I like a lot called "O&O defrag." I used to use Perfectdisk but switched to O&O after trialing it (free trial). Seemed to me it used the least resources while defragging in the background and does everything automatically in the background without slowing my system at all while it is working.

I like Diskeeper 2009 Pro on both XP and 7. Works without a hitch...nice and invisible auto defrag in the background.

Why doesn't anyone mention that perfectdisk is not a 64 bit program? That's the biggest disadvantage.

no, 32-bit defraggers will work perfectly well in 64-bit os.

Yes, I know that a 32 defrag prog will work on a 64 bit based operating system. The difference is that perfectdisk is only 32bit(in edition). That makes it slower when running on 64bit windows 7 than diskeeper for example, which is actually a 64bit program.

I tried perfect disk back in Vista and didn't see any difference in disk I/O or performance. I saw no reason to pay $$ for something that is built into Windows and works.

Why doesn't anyone mention that perfectdisk is not a 64 bit program? That's the biggest disadvantage.
PerfectDisk installer contains both 32-bit and 64-bit binaries. Installer automatically detects whether OS is 32-bit or 64-bit and automatically installs appropriate binaries.

I have been a Raxco fan for a long time now. Beta tested Perfect Disk 11 Pro too. All my machines run Perfect Disk 11 in stealth mode. It is also certified by Microsoft for Windows 7. Their customer Service and technical support is topnotch. Will not look into any other defragmenter.

Many are happy with the Windows 7 built-in-defragmenter. If you are happy with it, no need to shell out money for another one. But if you do look for another one, my recommendation will be ....hmmm....... you already know it. :)
