I ran the Windows Experience Index and found that the the score for my CPU is 3.7. The last time I ran the assessment the CPU score was 5.8. Its the same CPU. The only other change is that the memory improved from 5.8 to 5.9. I went from 2 to 4 gb of ram. Why would the score for the CPU drop so much when the only hardware change is more RAM? Below is the scores. Thanks

Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz 3.7

Memory - (RAM) 4.00 GB 5.9

Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 6.8

Gaming graphics - 2270 MB Total available graphics memory 6.8

Primary hard disk - 398GB Free (466GB Total) 5.9

Same OS? You simpy installed more RAM and it went down? Are they exactly the same RAM sticks? I would run memtest on run CPUZ to see what each stick is running at speed/latency wise.

This is a good point, you might have put in RAM that is a lower Hz and is thus slowing down your system. If it is the same type as you had before though, then this is very interesting.

you could try taking the new RAM out and see if the score goes back to how it was

The RAM is a dual channel pair that came in the same package. The original pair were Corsair (2) 1gb sticks. The new pair are Corsair (2) 2gb chips. The new RAM version is Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5C. CPUZ shows the chips running identical on the SPD tab. On the memory tab it only shows the size and type (DDR2). I also ran memtest when I first installed them but I didn't run it long. I'm going to run memtest overnight to see what happens. I didn't suspect the memory. The system is running fine. I just reinstalled Win7 64bit last week. That's when I first noticed the difference in the index score. Thanks for the reply.

I already sold the old RAM on ebay. I don't have anything else to switch with. One thing that was difference besides the size is the the 2gb pair is that they were 2.1 volts. My Intel motherboard only ran them at 1.8v since thats the defaut setting and there is no way to change it. The new RAM runs at 1.8v.
