I learned to download photos from my iPhoneSE 2020 to a data disk on my PC by plugging in my iPhone, allowing access, then going to Windows Explorer and opening the iPhone and selecting the DCIM option. The phone is set up so it shows a separate folder for each month. When I open a folder it opens to display the large icon type. I find the Details more useful. I select Type and I see all the JPGs followed by all their accompanying MOV counterparts. This allows me to shift-select all the JPG files and copy them to the PC for examination in Irfanview.

What determines the Type of display that is used as the default?
Can I change it to Details from the seeming default?
Also, if I delete files in the DCIM in Windows Explorer does it remove them from the iPhone, or does Apple protect me from myself and prevent this?

thanks

If you right click in the DCIM folder you should have a View option. Chose that and you should be able to chose Details and whatnot.

This setting is probably saved in an invisible file called thumbs.db. Or it's some kind of .ini file that I don't remember the name of.

If you delete the images in the phone's DCIM folder it should delete the images in the phone. I don't know how Apple does things though. I'm only familiar with Android.

DCIM stands for Digital Camera Images.
