Windows Explorer has stopped working error; damaged file ole.dll

My mom has an HP Mini 210-1044NR laptop. It no longer boots up right. I've tried to get the desktop screen to load in normal mode and safe mode, yet I keep getting the same error message.

It says Windows Explorer has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem the next time you go online.

If I click close the program, it gives her a black screen and nothing happens. I cannot get to the start menu, even. Ctrl + Alt + Del brings up task manager, but it doesn't really give me much to work with.

I did have the desktop loaded at one point, but then it all froze up and shut down.

Is there any way to fix this? Maybe bring the desktop back up? Or even get to the start menu to run something and fix it? I am going crazy trying to figure out what to do. Please help!

My mom has no way to download and burn programs to a CD or flash stick. None of those options are helpful at all. There is nowhere to insert a CD on her laptop, either.

greg has as always given great advise. It has worked on thousands upon thousands of computers. It's your job to find a flash stick and a clean computer to use for the download and update. No body here can do that for you.

Take it to a shop. Or get someone who can read to read it to you.

I wasn't trying to be insulting. Just stating my mom has no flash sticks, nor will she buy one just to try and fix this thing. She's had it in the shop twice and even sent it to HP to have it repaired, yet it will not work. She did end up buying a new one, but she's mad that she spent $800 on this laptop just to have to continue to screw up on her. That's all. There really should be a way to fix it without needing to download stuff to a flash stick. Just saying. I've tried a factory restore, but it claims it needs a disk, yet there's nowhere to put one. It also will not let me do a system restore to a previous point in time. It's probably a hopeless piece of junk.

Did you try accessing System Recovery Options from the F8 Advanced Boot Options menu. Some of the repairs can be done that way.

A 4 gb flash stick is $5 with free shipping from buy.com and can be used for all of these functions, or you can just skip to get a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is a vastly superior install with many less problems absent the HP crapware.

Did you try Recovery this way: HP Factory Recovery?
