Windows Explorer not displaying "My Computer" or any Hard-Drives.

Dell M6500

When you open Windows Explorer via. the Start Menu > My Computer the summoned instance attempts to "Load" the Tree view on the left. Does not display "My Computer" or any Drives.

If you then middle-click the icon on the start-bar, or open another instance of Windows Explorer while the first, failing one is open, everything loads fine.

Haven't crawled through the logs yet. Will take a look at them after lunch.

In the Explorer shortcut does the Target line have this at the end:
{323CA680-C24D-4099-B94D-446DD2D7249E}

that is the CLSID for Favorites and is how I have mine set up.

For Computer change it to:

Since I'm invoking explorer through the start menu, the 'target' field cannot be specified. I do not think that Explorer is behaving according to a set of user-defined instructions. Instead, it is failing somewhere.

The first instance of explorer will display "My Computer" underneath of favorites, but it fails to "see" any of the drives, they simply do not appear under the tree. Clicking on it causes the green bar at the top of explorer to move, but I'm fairly convinced that movement of that particular bar is more a measurement of time than progress...:confused:

Easiest things to try first are
in an elevated command prompt run
sfc /scannow
3 times

Do virus and malware scans

If the HD seems to be clean of malware I would do a drive diagnostic.
