I should state that I have already selected "Open each folder in the same window" in Folder Options from the Control Panel.

The problem is that sometimes I will open up Computer in Windows Explorer (Win + E) and double click on the C: or D: drive. Usually the drive will open up in the same window, but occasionally the drive will open in two, new windows. I then have to close the previous windows down, which is annoying.

Does anybody else ever have this problem?

If you know the solution, I would really appreciate that :)

I used to have this problem when I installed IE8 updates on windows vista, however i cant remember what i did to fix it. did you install any updates recently?
edit: check the last post on this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/software/22823-explorer-always-opens-each-folder-new-window.html i just remembered this was what i did and rebooted. you could check if it solves yours :)
edit again: go to start>accessories - command prompt 'right click, run as administrator, type in "regsvr32 shell32.dll" it should give you a confirmation too :)

Thanks, I tried this, but I'm afraid it didn't work.

My problem isn't that Explorer always opens new windows, only that it sometimes does, like when I click on partitions in Computer (like C: or D:).

edit: to clarify, sometimes I double click on a drive and it doesn't open in a new window. It's unpredictable that way.

Hi again, go to this link Microsoft Fix it Solution Center: troubleshooting software issues I found this from another source
Click on the second option that says “use desktop features, or open programs & files” and select the run now option second option below “diagnose and repair problems with files and folders” and download the exe file when prompted. Select all the options and let it do its job :D and please do report back the results :)
hope this helps
