Windows Explorer

I noticed something in the Task Manager that strikes me as a bit odd. My computer, which was last rebooted almost a week ago, is using 135 MB of memory for the Windows Explorer process, explorer.exe. Is this normal?

Try to restart it and see what happens.
My explorer with 4 tabs open is only using 101MB.

I will reboot, but even 101MB is a lot...

Mine right now is at 160MB on one computer and nearly 35 on another (but barely using it as I use Explorer++ instead there). Vast differences, but nothing I can't live with.
To be fair, I never payed too much attention at explorer memory consumption, 135MB sounds a bit high, but given the average memory usage of other things it doesn't surprises me that much.

If you want to look into this, I would check if you have any shell extension that might be using up RAM, or maybe you have a clutered desktop that's demanding, or so many things pinned on the taskbar, to name a few posibilities. Check if using another user changes that too.

I tried to have same conditions as previous comments - 4 tabs opened from Windows explorer + r3dfox + Task Manager, for explorer.exe there is memory used only 22 408 kB. Never seen over 50 MB.
Something is not normal in your system.

The biggest memory user now, after r3dfox browser (300MB) is Microsoft Security Essentials executive (changing, about 90 MB - 120 MB), then svchost.exe (SYSTEM) > 74 mb. Others processes - less than 30 MB.
