Windows Gains Market Share, Mac Loses Market Share, Coincidence?

It seems that Apple and Mac have been stopped in their tracks and giving a nice push backwards by Windows 7. According to NetApplications.net, Microsoft Windows increased their overall market share for the first time in months, and Mac saw a loss equal to Windows gain.
Overall for the month of February, Windows accounted for 92.1% of the operating systems that powered machines visiting the 40,000-plus sites that NetApplications monitors for clients of its analytics service.

Good read. I think all of us here on the Seven Forums pretty much figured this was going to happen. One thing that is for sure it is good to see XP losing ground. As for Apple I would guess that the problems they are having with the new iMac 27" isn't helping much (haven't had any of them yet; knock on wood).

Microsoft needed a out-of-the-park home run with bases loaded; with Windows Seven they finally got it.

I'm not anti-Apple by any means (I own a Mac Mini). But I think some of their advocates will never be swayed by anything Microsoft does. I've seen some derogatory descriptions of Windows 7 along the lines of "it's just warmed-over NT with chunks of DOS lying around."

I wouldn't know where to begin to respond. It probably would be futile to try to reach common ground going up against an opinion like that.

Hi Erich, I am a Mac user and have been for twenty-two years (see specs), but at this point Microsoft has a winner that is going to be hard for OS X to contend with. Seven is at this point a smoother more balanced OS.

I have Win 7 Boot Camped on my iMac 27 and it runs smoother and faster then the OS it was originally designed to run. So at present it would appear that the Mac systems are losing out to Win 7.

Well I think people are understanding that you can get a heck of a computer for well under a $1,000 by Asus, Toshiba, Sony, Dell etc.

I am going to leave out HP because I don't feel they make very high quality laptops and a recent quality report says the same thing.

Anyways if you are not a complete idiot you can enjoy Windows 7 without much fear of messing up everything. Even downloading the free Windows Security software works good I think


I just love using 7 and Chrome = internet like never before. Just so fast and I don't have to wait for pages to load.

I had a Mac Mini gathering dust here for over a year. Boot camping Win7 on it finally made it useful as a nice kitchen computer.

Well, that's very open-minded of you to say. But hey, as far as I'm concerned, they're both winners.

Seriously, I think a lot of it depends on the user, their talents, and his or her ability to tap the potential of the OS. You can do a lot of cool things on a Mac and a lot of cool things on a "PC" as long as you know what you are doing.

Heh. I just read the same thing in my current issue of PC World where they do their periodic reliability survey; HP came in toward the bottom in more than one category. And I'm typing this from my HP laptop that I bought late last year! I admit it makes me a little concerned, but the funny thing is, I really like this laptop, and I haven't had any major problems with it yet.

As far as Chrome is concerned, I agree, I also use it and like it ... but it does a funny thing on my main machine at home. When I open it up and go to my home page (set to Google), it often does it very slowly (there's an unnecessary delay). I'm not sure why -- pretty much every other site works fine.
