Windows has detected a hard disk problem

Hello -
I just installed Windows 7 unto my 2-yr old laptop. I'm getting an error message stating: WINDOWS DETECTED A HARD DISK PROBLEM.

My options are: Start the backup process
Ask me again later
Don't ask me about this problem again.

I ran the check disk tool - it said everything is ok. Can you please advise what I need to do to fix this error?

Hi and welcome.

some more info on how you installed it to laptop will be handy.

laptop system/ mobo etc. info.

it may something else at fault, incompatible...etc.

Excellent, download Seagate Seatools, and run the Short DST test. Post the results. The readme has a lot more info.

Your disk is dying and close to death. You can run one of the longer tests, but I would back up all data and then replace the hard disk.

Run the longer tests as indicated in the readme, but if the disk fails this . . . you can use the troubleshooting guide in my sig to find out your system specs and then try and buy a new hard disk. You may need to find a manual to see what HDD would fit, is supported etc.
