Windows issue

I have a problem I have 2 PC's running Windows an older PC desktop amd dual core running Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit and I also have an older PC laptop Toshiba core 2 duo 3 gigs of ram running Windows 7 home Premium 32 bit and there both have the same issues as when you shut down the computers it's saying there's 2 of 20 updates and when you go back an hour it's still at 2 of 20 any questions what this may be or what it is.

But I left desktop on all night and was still at 2 of 20 never moved
I have a friend that has a computer shop and a desktop came in with same issue but I won't find out till Tuesday or Wed

In that case, go ahead and restart the PC. Press and hold the power button until it shuts down if needed. Afterwards, restart the PC, and check for any Windows Updates.
